  1. If I learned anything from @mahantango#1, it’s that Pillow is the Death Valley and the Peter Sinks of central PA, so even if it hits 100 during the upcoming hot spell, it’ll get back down to 64 at night.
  2. 100s to the Mason-Dixon Line next Thursday on the 18z GFS.
  3. My dream is to one day visit Pillow. I’m sure it’ll be anti-climactic, but such is life.
  4. As it should be. A rockin’ carnival, always a big winner in precip, warm days, cool nights, and an interesting name. Not bad for a sleepy town.
  5. Fixed it for you. If only the temp dropped to 66 and you got .66” of rain.
  6. It’s that usual phenomenon of the GFS making big jumps while the EC makes baby steps. So I guess a drop of 6-8 degrees on the Euro is actually pretty significant.
  7. So the model rundown seems to be: CMC: has jumped on the heat train next week GFS: has jumped off the heat train next week EC: still on the heat train next week *but nothing particularly excessive or lasting on any model
  8. I mean it’s not like it was hour 384 or just one model or anything, the trend was definitely in that direction for several runs. Euro and CMC still would suggest we have at least two shots at 90 next week, GFS has diverged.
  9. We got some surprise thunderstorms towards dusk last night that I couldn’t even see coming because of the haze. Walking the dog last night: Wife: “is that thunder?” Me: “no, it’s not supposed to storm tonight. Probably an airplane.” *distant thunder rolls again* wife: “I’m telling you, that’s thunder” me: “no, it must just be people rolling their garbage cans out to the curb” *I check radar when we get inside* “Yep, that was thunder.”
  10. All in all, a solid run. The 540 line and even the 534 line make an appearance in Canada and not even all that far north.
  11. I’ll have to check it out, that Euro run was painful.
  12. GFS replaced the trough with advancing the ridge east. This could get ugly fast.
  13. Hey CTP mets, if you’re reading this, give a shout-out to Pillow the next time it could be relevant in a forecast discussion (e.g., “a chance of showers and thunderstorms east of a Danville to Pillow line”).
  14. We may be armchair meteorologists but we’re the best armchair meteorologists in the land.
  15. Yeah, not sure I enjoy the wildfire smoke either, but I’ll take it if it means the temperature will be even 1 or 2 degrees cooler (less absurdly hot?) than it otherwise would have been.
  16. No comment. But not sure I want to add any more smokiness to the air than we already have.
  17. But that little bit of precip you do get to break up the perfect game reminds me of another great moment in Pirates history for @sauss06’s viewing pleasure:
