  1. It was snowing pretty hard here around 3:30 this morning. Woke up to a heavy mix. I've got 3" of heavy wet snow at my house. My parents live more toward the VA/KY stateline, they have 5". It's all switched to a cold rain now.
  2. Ended up with 5.5" of snow once it was all over. It is very cold today, my propane heater is cranked up, it usually sends you out of the house on 2. I have it set to 4 and it's struggled a bit this morning to keep it warm.
  3. Thanks!! I have to say, this winter has been pretty exciting so far. I've had far worse in recent years. I'm just glad to see most of us have gotten in on the action a bit this year.
  4. That's no problem bud. I haven't updated the forum in a bit on my situation. I made a post a little over a year ago explaining everything. Long story short, I ended up with the fungal pneumonia Blastomycosis. Was on life support for a month, bed ridden in ICU for 5 months. I developed critical illness myopathy and critical illness polyneuropathy. The Drs were expecting a full recovery within a year, it's going on 16 months and I'm still doing a lot of physical therapy. I can walk on a walker and cane for short distances, I fatigue very fast though. To keep this somewhat on topic, it seems the snow has returned at a pretty moderate rate! Would love to squeeze another inch or so out of it.
  5. I'm unfortunately still in a wheelchair. Was hoping to be back to walking again by now, especially days like today lol. Of course I get decent snows when I can't enjoy them!!
  6. Didn't get a chance to post until now. Had mostly heavier snow move through earlier, it's slowing down a bit now. Just shy of 3" from what I can measure. My girls aren't home, so I have no good way of measuring.
  7. Just issued this, must be expecting a bit of higher totals. .WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 1 AM SUNDAY TO 8 AM EST MONDAY... * WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 3 and 6 inches. * WHERE...Portions of southwest Virginia and central, northern, southeast, and southern West Virginia. * WHEN...From 1 AM Sunday to 8 AM EST Monday. * IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning commute.
  8. Coming down pretty hard at the moment. We have picked up at least an inch maybe more since it began. Roads are deteriorating quickly.
  9. Dickenson and Buchanan counties are a part of Charleston WV NWS. They had talked about issuing advisory but changed their minds to Winter Storm Warning instead. They usually wait til the last minute to issue warnings down here.
  10. It looks like I may end up on the lower side of totals on this storm, but I'm still stoked to actually have some winter weather!! I'm very happy for my TN buddy's, you guy's deserve a decent storm!
  11. Managed to pick up another inch throughout the night/morning. 5 inches total, not bad considering the amount of rain that fell with it!
  12. Sitting right around 4" here. It has stopped for now after ripping hard since the beginning.
  13. Just got home from Grundy to Keen Mountain, the roads and all surfaces are covered now. It didn't take long from the time it started. The snow is still coming down fairly heavy.
  14. We are getting very fine small flakes in Grundy at the moment. Starting to pick a little now.
  15. Radar showing snow over my area. Nothing is falling yet. 29f at the moment.
  16. I'm glad to see some more fellow southwest VA guys. Keen Mountain here, originally from Harman/Big Rock. Hoping to score a few inches of snow. I'm afraid it's going to be more of an ice issue. I have my propane heater ready to go in case the power goes out. Hoping we can all escape the worst of the ice!!
  17. I've noticed this as well, thought something was missing.
  18. My fiance and I were on our way to Grundy from Keen Mountain. We got about 2 miles on our trip and a monster band of snow hit. Roads became instantly covered, whiteout conditions. My fiance turned the car around and went straight back home. It lasted for around 10 minutes before letting up to a moderate snow.
  19. Moderate snow showers falling here. Winds are blowing it around quite a bit. Truly feels like a wintry day, especially for first day of met winter.
  20. Sorry to hear about your loss. Thoughts, prayers and safe travels for you bud.
  21. From what my girls have measured, we have 4.5 inches here. That's more than I figured we would end up with. Very nice early season snow. My pic isn't the greatest, but shows a little.
  22. Heavy snow showers here in Keen Mountain around 3:30. It's tapered off a bit but enough to cover the grass.
  23. Snowing pretty steady now. Heavy graupel moved through a bit earlier. Nice to see some flakes flying around.
  24. Here are two home videos I have uploaded to YouTube of the 1987 snowstorm. Sorry if the quality is poor, I am certainly no camera man! Ignore my crazy daughter squalling in the background lol. The people in the videos are my uncle, aunt and cousin. Oh, and their dog "Moose" lol. According to my grandmother they received 34 inches when it was all said and done. I figured some of you guys might enjoy some never before seen footage of a great storm.
  25. I wasn't able to film it today, will definitely get it tomorrow. I'll get back to you on the channel. Haven't used it in years lol.
