Well, temp is finally dropping here in death Valley....down to 32.9⁰ after being stuck near 37⁰ all day

Temp down to 36.1 after a high of 43....no where near the cold front here in the valley, just melting snow acting like an ice cube with calm winds

Yup, wiped clean here....I have noticed though, at least here in this valley if there isn't any wind. The snowpack melting from rainfall acts like an ice cube and keeps the temps lower. If the wind picks up, then the cold air is mixed out pretty quickly...

My pack is melting as we speak with sun and 47, can't wait to see what happens with heavy rain

Despite missing the big one this past weekend, we have had snow cover for more than 3 weeks, so I really cannot complain this year...it could be worse. It would be nice to go spend the week at the cabin, just to feed the need for snow....I love the beach, but there is something about hiking right after a fresh snowfall.

I have been looking for properties that have existing wells/septic systems. That would help skip a few steps to start. My wife wants to make this place a vacation spot/potential retirement location so she wants it to be the perfect cabin. So, we are open to a fixer upper if the price is right. We are in no real hurry, so now is the time to narrow the goalposts. We got a couple quotes from cabin builders and they are sky high right now due to lumber costs, definitely will be waiting on that part. Might have to buy a plot of land and park an RV there for a bit, lol... My kids are just as excited, they want 100+ acres so they can go explore their own forest.

I love the idea of being close to areas with views of the mountains, great summer time adventures, while being close to the Maine coastline. Thanks for the info!

Didn't the GFS see the TPV pressing in the last storm pretty early on? Maybe that is what is happening again? I am no pro, just a thought...could be why the cold press seems so strong

Can we just make sure this spreads some of the goods out down here too....6 inches down here this weekend, we need some more pack building after the melt coming up....SE ridge versus the Arctic press, always worried the ridge is stronger, but it is winter climo around here, so there is that. Later in February might be a different story with Spring next pushing through....

I knew that thread existed somewhere, but couldn't find it, thanks for the additional insight! It is definitely a tough decision and will take all things into consideration. Hope to pick an area within the next year or two.

I had asked this question last year, but will open up the conversation again. My wife and I have restarted our search for investing in land (more than 10 acres), we were looking into VT and NH, but would like to expand our search into Maine. But we are not too familiar with the state. Pros and cons of each state will help, but narrowing down a particular region have been impossible so far on our end. We do need to be somewhat close to amenities like a hospital. We have young kids, so always good to have something within driving distance just in case. Snow, from a weenie standpoint is a must, no snow holes please, lol....We will be building a cabin, but will wait for the crazy building costs to drop before that happens....Always thankful for any input from the locals on here!

Down to 6.6⁰ already, off a high of 25⁰, briefly dropped to -4.9⁰ this morning....cold crisp night, felt refreshing taking the dog out.

Radar returns do not look great here, but finally have some heavy snow falling, blizzard like dare I say....temps have fallen to 9.0⁰, everything is blowing sideways. Probably between 6-7 inches for the storm so far.
