  1. I have been looking for properties that have existing wells/septic systems. That would help skip a few steps to start. My wife wants to make this place a vacation spot/potential retirement location so she wants it to be the perfect cabin. So, we are open to a fixer upper if the price is right. We are in no real hurry, so now is the time to narrow the goalposts. We got a couple quotes from cabin builders and they are sky high right now due to lumber costs, definitely will be waiting on that part. Might have to buy a plot of land and park an RV there for a bit, lol... My kids are just as excited, they want 100+ acres so they can go explore their own forest.
  2. I love the idea of being close to areas with views of the mountains, great summer time adventures, while being close to the Maine coastline. Thanks for the info!
  3. -3.1⁰, ready for a warmup cool ice on everything this morning. Made it look very arctic like
  4. Didn't the GFS see the TPV pressing in the last storm pretty early on? Maybe that is what is happening again? I am no pro, just a thought...could be why the cold press seems so strong
  5. Can we just make sure this spreads some of the goods out down here too....6 inches down here this weekend, we need some more pack building after the melt coming up....SE ridge versus the Arctic press, always worried the ridge is stronger, but it is winter climo around here, so there is that. Later in February might be a different story with Spring next pushing through....
  6. Coldest night of the season here, -5.7⁰ for the low, up to a balmy 12⁰ now....
  7. I knew that thread existed somewhere, but couldn't find it, thanks for the additional insight! It is definitely a tough decision and will take all things into consideration. Hope to pick an area within the next year or two.
  8. I had asked this question last year, but will open up the conversation again. My wife and I have restarted our search for investing in land (more than 10 acres), we were looking into VT and NH, but would like to expand our search into Maine. But we are not too familiar with the state. Pros and cons of each state will help, but narrowing down a particular region have been impossible so far on our end. We do need to be somewhat close to amenities like a hospital. We have young kids, so always good to have something within driving distance just in case. Snow, from a weenie standpoint is a must, no snow holes please, lol....We will be building a cabin, but will wait for the crazy building costs to drop before that happens....Always thankful for any input from the locals on here!
  9. Down to 6.6⁰ already, off a high of 25⁰, briefly dropped to -4.9⁰ this morning....cold crisp night, felt refreshing taking the dog out.
  10. Radar returns do not look great here, but finally have some heavy snow falling, blizzard like dare I say....temps have fallen to 9.0⁰, everything is blowing sideways. Probably between 6-7 inches for the storm so far.
  11. nice to see, visibility is finally dropping....was almost 3 miles for a better part of an hour, back down to 1 mile. 18.1° 4.25" since yesterday morning, 3.25" new
  12. Southbury has been stuck in between bands now for the past hour, doesn't look good here moving forward. 3 inches so far, 4 inches total...Eastern folk, have fun with this one
  13. You can definitely see the dryer air pushing in from the NW....it is going be pretty close to the CT/NY border. Hopefully we get one of those weenie bands way out here...
  14. Light snow now, had some snizzel this evening as well as an inch of fluff earlier in the day...26.6⁰ Hoping for the current Rap/Euro Kuchera combo, but expecting 6"-10" here.....
  15. Well, at this point let's just take the Rap/Euro Kuchera for here and hope for the best... but for real. What are you thinking? I'm hoping for 6-10....
  16. Got close to a half inch of snow, but the powerful late January sun has vaporized it all, other than shaded areas.....31.5°
  17. yup.....that little voice inside that kept saying it was too good to be true. I guess we can let it all play out, but we have been here, done this before. I just hope we can keep a 4-8 inch storm potential here, without that slipping away as well
  18. I said I would wait to make a decision until 12z today, hopefully the Euro ticks back west....hope your map works for all of us. Biggest "storm" here so far is 7.5". It would be nice with all of this hype to at least top that, but we shall see.
