This has been a truly odd past five days of weather. I don't recall anything quite so long in duration with such chilly temps. The killer is that our girls have had a stomach bug since Sunday, so no one is particularly happy about being stuck at home right now!

100% agreed. Plenty of talk of a quite warm November on the Mid-Atlantic, which, assuming the source region in Canada doesn't torch, could be a good thing in setting up a possible colder period into December-January, as you said. In my opinion, November is a great torch month. It can be plenty warm enough for t-shirts and really pleasant days, but it won't get hot, and those warm days are almost always dry. Any cold days are just wasted, so better it be mild!

My parents live just inland near Atlantic City - they've had over 5" of rain since Saturday with potentially upwards of 3" more expected. Add that to the easterly winds and that's a lot of water having a really hard time getting out of the back bays up there.

I would say MBY is "just changing" now. I think we usually peak around Nov 10 or so.

November is a perfect month for a torch.

That area is definitely in the highest surge area now. Hopefully with enough forward motion the water won't pile up too high. In-laws in Hilton Head got some decent winds and rain, but no surge there with the winds off the mainland. Probably some flooding in the creeks with NW-facing mouths, but likely not a huge deal.

I see it all the time (with its original spelling). Basically the same as slaps, but I guess it sounds cooler to certain crowds. "This beer fux!" "That new pizza place fux!" "This snowstorm fux!"

And fux. It's a normal word, but it kinda gets under my skin when used as a verb to describe something positively.

Don't think ever had it, but I could see them having a damn fine slaw. I make my own, and I gotta say I think it's pretty f'ing good!

There are so many variations of chocolate cake that chocolate cake can be inferior to a good carrot cake depending on the variety. So...some chocolate cakes are better than some carrot cakes, while the inverse is also true. There also some cakes that are equivalent in quality.

Yeah...heat likely won't be turned on for a couple/few weeks, but we'll probably flip on the gas fireplace in the evenings soon.

For sure. The point we were making (or at least I was making) is that ringing the death knell for a winter based on one or a few teleconnections not lining up perfectly is silly. It might take some luck, but just because X, Y, and Z aren't in their prime state doesn't mean we're going to suck eggs all winter long.

lol We set the AC to 67 at night in the summer. Heat is at 62 in winter. I turned off the unit last night and it was a comfy 66 overnight!

Carrot cake is so weird. It sounds so gross (I highly dislike raisins in baked good...except bagels), but it's freakin' delicious.

I like it, @WxUSAF! Wife and I have been debating putting in a native bed in one section of our front that doesn't have much grass and could really use some building up. Not sure we'll get to it this year, though, since we have a local nursery coming by today to consult on professionally doing our backyard landscaping. Might be a bit much to do two decent landscaping projects at once. If not this year, then definitely next year...- 137 replies
