  1. I haven't mowed since September. We live so far north that it's not needed.
  2. By the way, everyone... US-Wales in our World Cup opener next Monday at 2:00 pm on Fox and FS1 (and Peacock and other streaming services)!
  3. Eagles are undefeated and smoked the Vikings in week 2. Just sayin'...
  4. Pulled the tomato plants yesterday in advance of last night's freeze. Harvested about 8 lbs of tomatoes, maybe 1/3 of which had no blush of color at all. Definitely the best harvest of the season. In their place, I planted 15 cloves of locally grown Music garlic. I've had decent luck with Music in the past, but I've generally bought seed garlic online every other year or two, so it' not locally grown except for when I use my own bulbs as seed. Hoping that the local nature of this stuff will lead to slight more robust growth next spring than normal. Either way...can't be worse than this year's crop , which was almost a complete bust.
  5. 31 at 7:00 when I checked the local weather station in my neck of Burke. Wouldn't be surprised if it was 30...maybe 29 just before sunrise.
  6. That’s really cool! I’m not a stats person, but the 20,000’ view to me is that we generally run in sets of three 20-year cycles.
  7. Already a bit more rain than I had expected, given the trends over the last few days. Would be nice to rack it up now and then get this thing out of here in time for the weekend.
  8. Sorry...we'll stop the long-range discussion.
  9. Quickly looks up total snowfall in 2004-2005... https://giphy.com/explore/com-and-ship-this-with-meh
  10. Totally. But add in winter and F it even more.
  11. As I've said before, I'm getting a little annoyed by this look now . If this were just 2-3 weeks later (a month would be even better), we'd be all over it. I just don't want this to have happened just too early in the season, so hopefully we can have this look reload as we get into December proper.
  12. I'm a little annoyed that this is showing up now. If this were just a few weeks from now I think we'd be a bit more excited.
  13. US World Cup roster comes out at 5:00pm today. Lots of discussion about a leaked roster yesterday, but you could probably easily choose 23 of the 26 guys who are going already, so I'm not trusting any of those Twatter experts/threads. Can't believe the tournament starts in 11 days. That said, F a winter World Cup in Qatar.
  14. That's a 2-4" event just a few weeks from now.
  15. You mistook the closure. It was for Veterans Day.
  16. BWI: 15.5" DCA: 10.7" IAD: 16.5" RIC: 7.9" Tiebreaker (SBY): 8.2"
  17. Nice. Wish I were close to done! I did one cleanup two weekends ago, followed by one this past Friday and one on Saturday. Then all of the neighbors' beech trees dropped their leaves over the weekend, so I have a ton still to do. Three families at the top of our street had a service come out yesterday to clean up their yards. About half of the cul-de-sac was covered in 6-7' of leaves until they came out in the evening to suck them all up. Pretty impressive! As for gutters...I had quality guards installed this summer, and they've been working a real treat so far. I can't emphasize enough how excited I am to finally have them!
  18. Imagine it happening a month later. A nice cold shot followed relatively soon after by a low running from the Gulf -> Wilmington, NC -> 70 miles east of Norfolk -> just off of Cape Cod. What a Christmas scene-setter that could be!
  19. I absolutely have to do a full-property leaf cleanup before Friday. My backyard will never dry out if I don't clean up and we get multiple inches of rain.
  20. 80 in November is pretty unusual, for sure. But yeah...as that article points out, it takes at least one frost to put a dent in the mosquito season, and many places haven't had even one yet. I feel like they'll also come back out if there's a long enough time between first frost and a second cold spell.
  21. Not really that unusual to have them around this early in the fall.
  22. So many moving parts, which is always tricky, no matter where you are. Potential is there with that big EPO ridge, but it's more of a fun-to-watch scenario with climo so heavily against us at this point. Agreed on 2009-2010. It was just too easy.
  23. Thanks for keeping up with this. It's always good to have a met follow up on their own takes and address whether any adjustments need to be made. I'll take a flip to cold after Thanksgiving. General pattern progression would put much/most of December in play, then we let the chips fall.
