Nah, no worries....it wasn't directed at you in particular. But if you were in the previous covid thread that ran for a few months in spring and early summer, you'll notice a parallel. It's the same posters butting heads on the merits of lockdowns vs no lockdowns. Nobody is going to change their mind...and then it eventually creeps more and more political as the discussion veers to the motive of such posts rather than the posts themselves....round and round we go. The end result? Nobody changes their mind and the forum becomes more uncivil. This is why we've always had a strict "no politics" rule on the wx side....covid blurred the line. But after giving it a legit shot for months on end and even more recently to a lighter degree in this thread, it's pretty clear the arc always bends back toward the political side on this topic.

The covid discussion has a lot of interesting points, but it can't stay apolitical. I was out yesterday and catching up up just now, the convo is creeping political again. It's not too uncivil (yet), but it always eventually gets back to the same talking points. Nobody is going to change their mind RE: lockdowns from this discussion which is why I don't see the point in continuing it.

If the AK piggy locks in for late month, it's definitely concerning. We haven't seen it happen yet though and the next week or so actually features a lot of ridging up there.

Seems like there’s still a lot of sentiment for anything but a huge winter. Some are going decent and others going below average and others going full-on ratter.

Yeah it’s been trending a lot colder in the past couple days. Prob some more upslope up north too as it looks like a bit of cyclonic flow around a low in Quebec. That part could change though.

Yeah the school thing is weird after saying we can’t go outside and jog without a mask on. Now you want to send kids all into school where they cannot socially distance? Well, either it’s so serious that people can’t go into a park without their mask on, or it’s not so bad that we can stuff 30 kids into a classroom 2-3 feet apart from each other. Which one is it? We’ll see how much enforcement happens once ski season starts. If it’s virtually zero then I stay may go to Magic. It’s not hard at all for me to go by myself and not have to ever go inside. Eat lunch in the car or whatever.

Bummer, I was gonna try and hit Magic this winter. Probably not happening now. Day trip to NH on the menu.

Yeah the January 1976 cold was really intense. They day you are thinking of is probably 1/11/76. It was absolutely frigid. Good storm started that night and went into the next morning...temps were mostly in the single digits and teens during the snow.

Coyotes being skittish are one of the reasons they are so successful. They exist in populated areas without most people knowing it.

Interesting you mention 1975....was thinking about that one yesterday with the warmth. That had an obscene early November torch (and a +5ish month overall) too....though not quite as warm as these current few days. But I believe ORH cracked 70F a couple times and came close a whole bunch of others. That year then started to see-saw in late November to mid December before we had a solid 5-6 week stretch from about 12/20 to late January.

That happened in the woods behind my house last fall...2am and they were going nuts. It sounded more like a feeding frenzy or something rather than long howls. It was really creepy though.

Guys cut the politics talk...you can go to Ampol or some other political forum, but not here. I've started deleting posts. If you keep posting, then I'll just suspend or 5-post you. I get that people may want to talk about it, but most people prefer to keep politics off the wx side and it's a rule we've long stood by going back several versions of these forums.

Yeah we'll see. The weeklies supported a really bad pattern to open December too FWIW. We know how these things can be horrible accuracy sometimes, but it's something to watch.

That Euro december map would be hideous....even with the -NAO...there's no cold air for the NAO to hold in. We might see a marginal event or two on that look. Lets hope it's wrong. We don't want the piggy showing up.

This is bringing back memories of the bizarre golf course shutdown well after it was apparent people don't get covid playing golf. I highly doubt this is going to be enforced.

This event is pretty robust considering you are getting the echoes showing up so well in the White Mts....Alex will often report decent upslope when you can barely see the echoes, so this one is deeper in the atmosphere...rather than some of the lower level shallow upslope

Def don't measure in the open field with this stuff....you prob want to try and find a fairly sheltered place where some trees are close enough to keep the wind from going crazy, but not so close as to contaminate the snowfall itself. Maybe the north side of your place?
