    It may seem like a wild fantasy, well, it is. For another 5 to 10 years at least. 2009-10 like years have a return period of every 20 years or so most likely. The least we can expect between now and 5 years is one like 2013-14 or 14-15.

    Or it could start in January of 2021 and we wouldn't even know it. There's always that 1 percent chance that LR models dramatically flip from warm to cold and snowy within just a few model runs, under 7 days out and it verifies. OTOH we could be dealing with years before we get another decent winter. I'm going out on a few limbs to say that 2021-22 will be at least half decent. This winter will probably be another non-winter like last year.

    Big time trough over Siberia. Would mean a very cold air source to tap into with cross-polar flow on the 11-15 day GEFS

    The 50/50 high is forcing the low to the north, resulting in all rain or mostly rain at the coast. Only the interior and highlands get decent snowfall totals. Change that to a 50/50 low and it has nowhere to go but out to sea, which is a colder solution.

    This could be one of those winters that feature moderate sized snowstorms (between 6 and 12 inches) or clippers that are immediately followed by very cold temps because of a -EPO and PV parked over southern Canada. Snowpack retention ftw

    I knew that these "good looks" were merely another mirage yet again and we enter another sucky winter with barely any snow. But then again it's a moderate La Nina so I am not surprised. Let the reaping begin
