  1. I heard the Forest Service closed the ravine for skiing, and cars are being towed from Pinkham Notch. This article is old, but seems to confirm: https://www.conwaydailysun.com/news/local/forest-service-closes-parts-of-tuckerman-ravine/article_18771174-72c3-11ea-a870-8f339deb3efa.html
  2. Biggest hail storm in about 10 years for me, some legit nugs in there. Impressive ! More frozen in the last 20 minutes than the last 20 weeks it seems like.
  3. I use native material that came out of the hole. If you bury the bottom of the post at least three fee below grade, you don't need anything but soil to hold them in place. Concrete will crack and let go anyway. My brother-in law dipped his fence posts in driveway sealer, and then back filled around the posts with gravel, seems like overkill.
  4. Yes enough to take that pine tree down. It came down at 11:20 AM, doesn't seem quite as windy now as it was earlier.
  5. Head over the the lawn and garden thread, they'll get grass growing back there for ya.
  6. 100 foot tall white pine in the woods behind my house snapped off 20 feet up, it was 2 feet in diameter.
  7. Ive got a few large pines in the back that lean the wrong way to drop them cleanly. Interested to see if this technique gives the desired results.
  8. Flurries here 37F, noting accumulating on anything. They dumped a bunch of salt on the roads.
  9. Skied Killington yesterday, it was in prime shape, with nearly everything open. Snow surface was excellent, and plenty of non-groomed options available. Visibility was a challenge with freezing mist most of the day, but the skiing was great !
  10. It'll probably start snowing in March.
  11. You know people are jonesing for snow when the Feb thread is at 77 pages and counting, and it's still January.
  12. Sleet starting to mix in with the rain here in downtown Springfield. 34F
  13. @Fozz MRG is a blast. If you ski there you will learn to ski bumps. Also look at Magic near Mt. Snow. When the snow is deep in southern Vt., Magic has MRG-like goods (almost) and a similar throw-back vibe. Here is some mid-winter MRG stoke, just below the summit:
  14. I never liked taking my skis off to board a gondi. Seems so much easier to keep them on your feet.
  15. 1. Octo snow bomb 2011. 98.5 hours with 3 kids and no power. Unbelievable tree and electric utility equipment damage. 2. Blizzard of '78. Lived in Natick, unbelievable snow and wind, also no power (but we had a wood stove) and extended no travel / no school. Honorable mention: Springfield tornado 2011. I wasn't in it but it went 1/2 mile south of my office. Did strip the trees along the river pretty good. But is was nothing like the life altering events of the first two, and nothing else I've experienced comes close.
  16. Only one day over 80 and one night above 60 in the long range IMBY, looks pretty safe to uninstall today.
