  1. Going to feel more like Thanksgiving then Halloween this year.
  2. Foggy, drizzly, dreary day. 0.70” of rainfall today, temps stuck in the mid 50s but that’s all about to change.
  3. What is this heat some of you speak of? 55 yesterday 56 today at msp. 1.34” of rain yesterday and another inch tomorrow, then the bottom drops out. P&C has a high of 34 Saturday with snow showers.
  4. Trying to squeeze in lots of yard work today before I watch the Bears “play football.” Picture perfect fall day, full sun, morning in the upper 30s and will get to around 60 today. Next weekend looks like we could be stuck in the mid 30s with a few flakes flying.
  5. The oaks took a big turn here 3 days ago. They’ve been dropping leaves like crazy passing up the maples which turned last week.
  6. I doubt we see any accumulation, but I’m thinking the first flakes of the season are looking more likely in the time frame. Still way way way to far off though, could go poof on the next model run. There is recent precedent, 10/20/20 saw 7.9” of accumulation at MSP.
  7. GFS has been pretty consistent showing flakes of some degree in these parts around that time.
  8. Down to 38 here overnight. Average first freeze for Minneapolis is October 10th and we are looking at no freezing weather in site. 90% of years have a freeze in Minneapolis by 10/26.
  9. Rained until just south of Duluth on us. Colors are still great up here. Maples are done but the birch/aspen, and the underbrush are ablaze.
  10. Storm total rainfall just surpassed 1” at the airport. Looks like an all day rainer to make packing the car and tossing on the roof box enjoyable.
  11. Rain is slowly spreading north towards the metro. Looks like 2-3” of beneficial rain area wide. Glad I don’t have to work in it tomorrow. All day soaker. One last hurrah before winter sets in, taking the family camping up north this weekend. We’ll be at Tettegoche State Park along Lake Superior. Might be setting myself up for an interesting weekend, we’ll have the dog, our 2 year old, and my wife who is 6 months pregnant.
  12. 38 at the airport. Heavy frost at my suburban office again today. Car thermometer read 34.
  13. 0.0001% chance of verification. We can revisit on the 26th.
  14. First fantasy land model snowstorm of the season for mby!
  15. I’m a bit surprised at the record for days with 1” snowcover. I would have thought Detroit had a few winter with over 100 days. Posting stats for Minneapolis as a comparison and humble brag for last winter.
  16. Frost and Freeze advisories all around. The growing season ends for most of Minnesota tonight.
  17. Airport dropped to 37, widespread frost outside the heat island.
  18. Currently 39 in Minneapolis. Coldest temperature of the season so far. 36 at my suburban office with patchy frost.
  19. 45 in the city. I’m sure much colder outside the heat island.
  20. Pretty big recovery in the Twin Cities metro. Last year was the driest September with 0.24” and October finished the same amount.
  21. The first mention of wet snow mixing in across central Minnesota tomorrow has appeared in the MPX afternoon forecast discussion. Widespread frost outside the metro and widespread freeze up north this weekend into early next week. Stuck in the low 50s here for awhile.
  22. Good soaking rain and falling temperatures will be the theme tonight. Lots of leaving dropping with the gusty winds today. The bottom really drops out Thursday evening which will make this the AC to Furnace in less then a week time of year.
