2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season

It's amazing what one sometimes sees at the long range. For example this huge extra-tropical swallowing a major hurricane on the East Coast. You go GFS! -
2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season

Not really "crazy." I'm an old man and I've seen a few Mid-Atlantic whoppers in October. In fact, from memory October is a much better month for nor'easters than November. Like March, October is a "change of seasons" month. -

Over the many years I've seen tropical systems reach the Azores and even Portugal itself but North Africa? I don't recall ever seeing that. Anyone else? Imagine if it circled around for a second run across the Atlantic, storm trackers would lose their minds. (Yes I know the Sahara would make that problematic. How about a run into the Mediterranean? LOL) -

Locally (Greenville, N.C.) it's been a strange summer too. With 22 days of below normal temps the high for August was a mere 91F. If not for that long stretch of brutal humidity in the first half of the month it would have been perfectly enjoyable. September so far has been remarkably cool and better yet, no problems with humidity. Our summer "died" much like the hurricane season. -

Thank you Cholorob for your intelligent reply. Now, getting back to the tropics, or even sub-tropics ... While everyone has been searching for straws there's a little one (potential yellow down the road?) from here in Eastern North Carolina ... Morehead City NWS Discussion: There are some indications of a weak low forming along the stalled front/coastal trough off the FL/GA/SC coast this coming weekend into early next week as a deep positively tilted trough moves through. It is too soon to tell what impacts, if any, are expected with very low confidence on the timing, track, and intensity of the low should it form. At the minimum, winds should pick up a notch thanks to the tightened pressure gradient. This results in a higher degree of uncertainty for the forecast this weekend onwards. -

I looked up his user name long ago simply out of curiosity. Odd for sure but so what? This website has more "Karens" than Carter has pills. If one finds it so horribly offensive then use the block feature then go and hide in one's "safe space." Heaven forbid one spends time on X and gets introduced to the truly terrifying real world. Long ago it became apparent there are two themes to this website. First, global warming is a religion not to be questioned unless one wants to be ridiculed, and second, anyone to the right of Trotsky is bashed as a racist, bigot, antisemite or nazi which is why the off-topic section was such a disaster (and the antithesis of free speech.) Now, all that said ... I do agree his "Chav speak" (learned a new term today, thank you) is ridiculous and needs to go. This website "American Weather" is not a place for learning lower class British slang. -
Saved by the clouds ... yesterday's high was 89.6F. Today, after an overnight low of 68F we're barely making it to only 80F.

Here in Greenville, N.C. the temperature has been in the 80s for several days which would normally be nice but the humidity, omg! Scrolling through the airport data the RH has been pegged at 100% for almost every 20 minute reading with the lowest humidity in three days (as far back as the data goes) at 94%. Heat index today reached 101F. When do we get a break?

2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season

That would be a big problem ... as it is right now the 7-day forecast for Western North Carolina is for rain every day, they sure as hell don't want to see anything from the tropics heading their way. -

Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City NC 426 AM EDT Sun Aug 3 2025 Mid to late-week, the upper level pattern will begin to change as troughing develops over the TN Valley, and as ridging sets up from the western Atlantic north through eastern Canada. During this time, medium range guidance is showing a pretty good signal for a blocky pattern to develop across the eastern U.S. and western Atlantic. Of note, medium range deterministic and ensemble guidance suggest the Atlantic may begin to "wake up" so to speak as we move into the latter half of the week. While the main development region (MDR) will be a potential candidate for tropical activity, it is also worth noting that guidance is beginning to show a signal closer to home for low pressure development along the frontal boundary off the Southeast U.S. coast later in the week. As we often remind folks this time of year, please be careful not to lock into one run of one model, as significant run-to-run changes can be expected. At this point, the main takeaway is to be aware of the potential. Stay tuned for updates from the National Hurricane Center through the week in case this risk were to increase. -

February 19-20 Major Winter Storm Threat
Silver Meteor replied to NorthHillsWx's topic in Southeastern States
Looking at radar this thing seems winding down a lot sooner than forecast. Was not the anticipated big deal here in Greenville, NC. -
Nice app, and accurate for Pitt County (large semi-round county in center of orange/pink area around center of map) has been just that. A mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain today most of which has been sleet. Despite nice looking radar returns the total on the ground is measly.

Jumped from 32/21 to 30/30 with "light rain." Given the dew point half an hour ago I would have expected a better temperature drop. That "light rain" has already turned white on cars and grass. NWS has us at .25 to .50 of ZR for this event. Oh what a mess that would be! -

Greenville looking sweet! (Though I don't believe for a minute we're going to get 7.7" of snow.) -

Still waiting for first flake in Greenville despite radar returns overhead. Temperature pegged at 32F since 5:30am while the dewpoint has steadily fallen from 32 to 21 the last five hours with a NE breeze 10-20mph throughout. -

February 19-20 Major Winter Storm Threat
Silver Meteor replied to NorthHillsWx's topic in Southeastern States
Hello from Greenville! Been following this storm since the very beginning when I didn't even consider the possibility of getting snow from it. But really, what a mess! -
I was rooting for you all the way. MD/DC/DE was my home for over fifty years so even though I don't live there anymore I do follow all your storms and live them vicariously. My snow-loving friends back "home" are of course disappointed too (thank goodness I didn't hype this one up like some on social media do.) Am waiting here in eastern N.C. to see how my winter storm warning turns out, a slop-fest for sure but worthy of a Jeb walk anyway, haha. Best wishes to all of you (and no, I don't use AccuWeather, I just saved this from one of the forums a while back.)
