At this point I just want some rains. The drought here in middle is taking hold unfortunately. I definitely will not have a yard by June at this point. My yard is already showing dryness that usually does not show until July.

My wife & I were driving back from seeing our daughter at college. We were between McMinnville & Woodbury. I have never seen or driven through winds like that. The debris hitting my truck was crazy. It would lighting & the whole sky would light up. When I say it looked apocalyptic I mean it. It was as black & RED as I have ever seen a sky. I believe the red was from all the dust it was picking up from all the dry fields. Definitely one of the most intense times I have ever experienced with winds. Thing is these winds did not just last a minute or two. They last easily 5 minutes. I figured easily a 5 mile wide gust front of winds.

Well pretty much all the rain what little there is went south of middle TN. Ugh.

Sadly the rains were meager if even that for the midstate. The winds were some of the most intense I’ve experienced. I was driving home from seeing my daughter at college. My wife was scared at how bad it got. It does appear the drought is taking hold & usually dominates the wx when they do take hold.

Well that rain line was just a splash. I sure hope more develops. I was surprised to hear the news reporting in Asheville on so many wild fires already over that way. I’m hoping this does not turn into a long drought with a lot of fires. My yard already shows summer type cracks.

52 & 49 next Monday & Tuesday going to hurt. Thankful it appears to be a quick shot that does not last long. Guess it’s time for the folk lore winters. Is it locust up first?

It will be interesting but does appear the normal chilly to cold spring will keep severe wx away for back half of March. If we run the cycle we have for last several months. Maybe second half of April will be warmer. First half of April looks chilly to cold also. Easter looks chilly which is no surprise there. My wife & I travel to to the Biltmore end of March. We’ve never been & she has always wanted to go see the tulips.

Looking at forecasts temps. Looks like 1-2 cold days then right back to 60-70 range. I’m good with that if it holds. Just glancing blows.

I’m no severe wx fan & these last few years I’ve felt going into spring it would not be active due to us having colder springs lately. This spring feels different. We are getting warmer weather than we have the past spring’s. Yes there will be cold fronts but the battle between warm & cold seems to be ready to rumble. If tonight is any indication then insurance companies are going to be busy in March & April. Those storms in northern AL were true supercells. Scary to think if it had been late March or April.

Wow, that’s some big storms down in northern Alabama. I only knew they were there because I could see the lightning off in the distance from here in Murfreesboro.

I do believe we are seeing the beginning signs of truly colder winters like in the 70’s had. Record temps & a lot of snow is now happening all over the globe these last 2-3 winters. I could be way wrong but the last 3 winters we have had some really cold weather for at least a couple of weeks. This winter to me has been really cold compared to past winters. We shall see, one can hope!

Temperatures were there other than that winter sucked.
-
Two totally different camps on the mid to long range. One says what cold temps. The other says cold!!!
-
Congratulations to those getting snow.

Sadly I’m not believing anything the gfs shows. If the Euro AI says there is a chance then I will definitely be interested. Thanks middle tn electric for thinking of me for Valentines Day!

I hate to say this, but a hard pass on that. Middle Tennessee no snow again forget it. I’m over snow going north south east and west of Middle, Tennessee. It’s like a nightmare that won’t let you wake up. That has Freddie in it saying no snow for you.
-
Feel better soon!
-
Well, it has been fun, but it’s looking like winter has packed his bags and leaving town. There’s always a chance of a Hail Mary. Looks like cooler to colder weather will happen during spring, but the precipitation will be liquid. I expect a lot of flooding rains.
-
Maybe I am way off but I really feel like we are going back to the old style winters. Longer colder periods. Many places across the globe experiencing record snowfalls.
-
The ole I40 dividing line. Very true Jax to this winter for middle TN has been a frustrating & crappy one. The temps to me have been great. Just the snow dept. sucked. Hard to believe January last year was so much colder than this January.
-
The last 2 days I’ve been in the areas where the ice storm was most severe. It will take months to clean up all the trees & power poles. It’s much worse than the 94 ice storm. Many roads are 1 lane still from trees down everywhere. The ground being beyond saturated is also making it very difficult to get into areas to remove debris & trees.
-
The storm around Valentines Day maybe Middle TN last chance to get a significant winter storm. Reason being the pattern setting up could last the average 6 weeks which puts us well into March. Hopefully no severe wx with any fronts this year. The last thing areas with ice storm damage needs is winds. A lot of clean up for the next several months.
