Obs and nowcast Super Bowl Sunday 4A-6P Feb 7, 2021

and even when it's cold the snow seems to melt much faster- is that because of more urbanization, the salt in the air near the ocean or both? -
you're just south of my other home, I cant imagine how bad it will be in Jim Thorpe this spring. Our only hope is it never melts and just keeps snowing the entire year lol

I remember that and it left a sour taste in my mouth for the entire winter. I preferred 14-15 far more, much colder and better back half to winter...and the first really good March event we've had in a long time and started the streak of snowy Marches lol. You've got some elevation in your new location in addition to being further north, so you should do really well in marginal situations. -
this was my favorite storm of the season so far, all day sunrise to sunset storm with puffy fluffy snow sticking to everything! 7" at JFK and 7-8 across much of Long Island

this reminds me of a storm we had in Feb 2010 where we got 4 inches and Long Beach was less than an inch, very marginal storm just like this one. Did you see my post in the Banter thread? Some people just dont want to admit we're having a snowy season lol. -
He needs to be introduced to this guy. For Valentine's Day....they'd be a perfect match. In the same thread he said that Albuquerque hasn't hit 60 degrees this winter while NYC has hit it numerous times lol. I told him we're in a record streak of not even hitting 50 let alone 60 lol. 6 hours ago, raindancewx said: Philadelphia only got 0.7 inches of snow today. Less for DC/Baltimore. That's consistent with the pattern of marginal temperatures (never dropped below freezing in Philadelphia today - that seemed pretty likely given the warmth yesterday) that's been there and south of Philly all winter. The snow totals for much of the east are near average or below for the date, despite a small area from central New England to NYC and North Central PA doing pretty well. My big theory for this winter has been that the cycles are well established at about 45-days. So the big Nor'easter cycle is: late Oct-->mid Dec-->2/1-->mid March. Not really expecting any huge snow dumps until then. We'll see though. Temperatures start to climb as you get later in February even as the oceans are still getting colder. There was a lot of small crap that never really materialized as big snowstorms for the NE between mid-Dec and 2/1. That's where we are now I think.

JFK got 7" of snow and it looks like NYC and the tristate area is on for perhaps a historically snowy month -

Yeah NW part close to East Rockaway and Lynbrook. Snow started sticking here in earnest at 9:30 AM and it snowed right until a little after 5 PM. -
Walt....those are yearly snowfall totals not seasonal ones....I saw 1996 in there and saw the 61.3 figure and knew it was wrong lol. They are including December from the following season in there instead of December 1995
-
if we were at the latitude of Toms River we would've had 50 inches that month. It was Jan 2011 and Feb 2010 that are my top 2
-
keep in mind that some of these areas have already seen 30 inches this month lol Can you find a list of top snowiest months, Walt? Maybe NYC can break 40 inches this month!
-
yeah this is pretty crazy and reminds me of 2009-10 and 2010-11, and one was an el nino and the other a la nina so this is something much bigger than enso....this is some sort of stuck pattern that keeps amplifying itself. imagine if we had a runaway greenhouse effect and the pattern kept getting stronger and stronger in a chain reaction? people wonder how the Great Red Spot on Jupiter is a permanent feature- imagine having a permanent Cat 5 hurricane or snowstorm roaming the planet for thousands of years lol
-
thats presidents day weekend right? it's early this year? or the weekend after, around the 20th which was also being highlighted by some?
-
did anyone predict this kind of blocking? what happened? think we'll see the kind of fantasy storm we've been talking about for a few years (a benchmark track all snow slow moving triple phaser that drops 40" of snow here lol.)
-
dont forget that 7" at JFK Don! Maybe the NYC/LGA numbers are off?
-
People are telling me "global warming" isn't real because of this bout of cold lol. This is exactly why it's called climate change and not global warming. One asked me how could we be having all this sustained cold when he had been told we could never get this kind of weather again.
-
max cold dives into the mid west we get the snow lol

the eastern part of the south shore sucks both in the winter and the summer...we got 7-8 here (JFK at 7" easily beat both NYC and LGA which were between 4.5-4.8) -

lol Long Beach got less than JFK which also hit 7" I dont think any place in Nassau County was less than 7 except for the barrier islands Big difference between JFK 7" and LGA and NYC which both got 4.5-4.8 -
