The storm that January 2016 most reminded me of was the first snowstorm I ever experienced on Long Island...a storm that is commonly referred to as February 1983! That one was also supposed to stay to our south and also occurred in a very strong el nino.

Yeah I was in the same location for Jan 1996, Feb 2003 and Jan 2016 and Jan 2016 beat out the other two. I always thought Jan 1996 was undermeasured, but it wasn't 30" More like 28 inches. Feb 2016 was 26 inches. Jan 2016 was 32 inches and we had still had 30 inches left on the ground 6 hours after the snow ended. The bonus was the band of snow at the end that just kept going and going and made the storm last over 30 hours.

Don any idea if this will be a cold and dry or cold and stormy pattern? If it doesn't snow the cold will be worthless. -
I got 30" in both my locations with that storm lol....you really missed out. I remember when you were on here that day too.

I dont care if the rest of winter is in the 90s if we can get ONE snowstorm like that every winter I'm happy.
-
funny thing is my inland location near Allentown also got 30" and my coastal location near JFK also got 30" lmao I wish every snowstorm was like this....this was the Michael Jordan GOAT of snowstorms!

best snowstorm ever

No in my post I said we dont have a mud season like New England does, and it makes their springs worthless. I'd rather be outside doing planting rather than being inside watching it rain. Our climate is better than New England's.

ehhh the two worst busts of all time! But I feel like the Jan 2008 Heavy Snow Warning bust doesn't get mentioned enough either. I think that was the last HWS we had?

He's jealous of NNE- that made me laugh. It's like saying someone in Florida is jealous of NYC because of how much snow NYC gets. C'mon now LOL Of course Florida isn't jealous of NYC for weather reasons anyway. I guess he doesn't like how much better our springs and summers are and we dont get a "mud season" like New England gets.

This looks like it will be good for interior SNE but not for coastal areas even up there. -
I very much doubt we will see 1" of rain let alone 1" of snow. You worked so hard Walt, it isn't your fault, the cut off was just too sharp with this and for some storms, you really can't pin down details until within 48 hours.

Would this be considered a Miller B? Those are the ones most likely to have precip patterns like this.

most of them were January and most of those were dry and cold lol..and the one December in 1989 which was historically cold but also hysterically dry....
