  1. Maybe with ACC going forward we'll see more El Nino like patterns even outside El Ninos?
  2. Thanks Don! I see why I confused the two.....they both happened in Jan 2004 and they both ended in the morning! So the mid Jan 2004 event was the one with the extremely high ratios and the late Jan 2004 event was the one with the pink snow? I still remember the wide variance in snowfall..... Far Rockaway had almost 11 inches while JFK was closer to 6.5! Did this one not have the extreme ratios of the prior storm and were the temps not as cold? I think this was the pink snow storm that I still remember all these years later.
  3. Thanks Don, so this was a 6-7 inch event here. I'm trying to remember what storm we had that winter that was a 10-11 inch event (not the Blizzard of Dec 2003).
  4. Don do you remember any other pink snow instances besides Jan 2004 and Jan 2009?
  5. Thanks so much Don is this the final report? I saw some of the Nassau County reports (East Rockaway, for example) weren't updated after 7 am. Also, I was actually looking for the final report on the January 2004 storm that had the high ratios. I wonder where old storm reports are filed away?
  6. sort of like Feb 1994, we finally did get into a big thaw and temps in the 60s but that was after two snow storms in the same week and then got more snow in March.
  7. wow thats some ratio lol was 4.6 the total snowfall for the entire storm? I remember it to be somewhat higher than that....
  8. Yea that was the pink snowstorm I was thinking of and we got a low of 1 on back to back nights I think? Were predicted to go below zero but it never happened.
  9. Thanks Don, do you also have pictures from the Jan 2009 pink sunset snowstorm? Also, I'm not sure of the exact date of this storm, based on your site it says 27-29 but based on the numbers Chris posted it happened from the 14-15th or were those two different storms?
  10. How can one find the snowfall report of this storm for the entire area? I want to see all the airport totals but also the spotter reports? Based on the LGA numbers it was 6.8 inches of snow on 0.09 inches of liquid wow...... 75:1?
  11. yes that was measured at 10-11 inches in the Rockaways and Western Long Island, ended just after sunrise on the 15th and a last heavy blitz of snow came down as the sun was rising and the color of the sunrise made the snow look pink! It was absolutely amazing..... the only other time I saw pink snow was at sunset during January 2009.
  12. You remembered! Do you have any pictures of that pink hue by any chance, Don? Jan 2004 I think? I wish I had taken pictures of it but I still remember it so vividly in my mind. We had a similar storm in Jan 2009....and in that occasion it was pink snow at sunset!
  13. Jan 2004- do you remember that one? single digits....10-11 inches of snow? heavy snow at sunrise and the snow looking pink as it came down?
  14. Don do you remember the storm during the 03-04 winter when we had temps in the single digits and had ratios of 25:1 to 40:1 with LGA having an astounding 80:1 ratio? We had almost a foot of snow in that one. 11 inches at Far Rockaway if I remember correctly. Was that the one when we had heavy snow at sunrise and the color of the sunrise made the snow look pink as it came down?
  15. I would have loved to stay up all night but there's not much to see when it's pitch black outside lol. I did stay awake from 3-6 and that was enough for me. Slept 11-3 and then 6-9.
  16. Didnt one of those storms in the 03-04 winter have an 80:1 ratio at LGA and 40:1 over the rest of the area? Temps were in the single digits and we got about 10-11 inches of snow.
  17. 1999 is an interesting analog, another one where we had a snowy January and a snowy March. I noticed that my area is usually in or near the jackpot if we have a big storm during a strong El Nino otherwise we are the snowhole of Long Island
  18. Sound enhanced, a similar thing happened in December 1995 when LGA had 14" and NYC had 8" and JFK had 7" ISP had 12" in that one.
