  1. lol @ May having 8 90 degree highs, no wonder 1991 is tied with 1993 with record 90 degree days
  2. thats crazy wasn't 1991 a record hot summer, tied with 1993 for number of 90 degree days? it hit 100 twice in July in the city
  3. wasn't 1994 a front loaded hot summer? much hotter down in Philly where 1993 and 1994 were back to back record hot summers
  4. It's annoying the outages are becoming more often here. Nothing extremely long since Sandy which was a 25 hour outage here and of course the outage that took down half the nation and parts of Canada back in August 2004. But we had an outage of like an hour back in March 2018 I think it was when we had all those snowstorms. And then we had a weird 2 hour power outage during a total lunar eclipse back in January 2016 when the high winds caused it to go out while temps fell into the single digits.....those are my 2 cold weather power outages.
  5. There's a place in the Himalayan foothills called Cherrapunji that sets monthly and yearly rainfall records for the entire planet, I wonder if they are approaching rainfall records now.
  6. we need a giant dehumidifier
  7. JFK hit 90 at 1 PM? Was that their high?
  8. wow and what was the summer we had back to back 99 high temps with 117 heat index at JFK? Was that July 2019? I remember it was on a weekend.
  9. Have we come close to matching that 42 75+ DP days we had that one year at JFK? I think that was 2017?
  10. 1989-1990 was another notable one after a snowy Thanksgiving and then a record cold and dry December, record warmth in January, February and March with summer like mid 80s around the Ides and then a late snowfall in early April. DC had more than we did that winter they got a storm in December that somehow changed to rain for us when a secondary formed too close to the coast, the second blown 6-8 inch call that year (the first one was in the previous winter, in February, when we had virga all day while ACY got 20" of snow.)
  11. I think 2001-02 might have been our warmest winter, and the warmth extended into springtime and summer....unusual because a moderate el nino followed it (which was a great winter.) I loved that dry heat wave in April 2002! I was hoping the summer wouldn't be as lackluster as 1976 which was the only other time we had such an early heatwave and 2002 did not disappoint. I had roses growing after Christmas in 2001 and my first crocuses popped up in February in 2002- the shortest non growing season I've ever had.
  12. the 1989-1990 type winter on steroids......I rank 2001-02 as the worst of the worst, particularly because JB was talking about it being the GOAT of winters in advance, when does he not lol
  13. Hopefully that puts a big dent into the major drought in the SW. I saw there was even a flash flood watch for Death Valley National Park today.
  14. damn August 2011 was so close to 20" I'm sure parts of Long Island hit it in August 2011 just like they did in October 2005. I know western Long Island had 10" in just one Saturday event in August 2011. Has JFK ever had 20" in one month? and lol @ March and April 1983, back to back 10"+ months! Had accumulating snow as late as April 19-20 that year too! and 1933 and 1934 had back to back Septembers with 10"+ must have been an active tropics that decade lol. 1938 was only a few years away.....and 1944 a few years after that.
  15. and 2013 was our last truly peak heat summer- it hit 100 that month at JFK!
  16. what did we have in 2001? I remember that summer as cool and wet and somehow we spiked up to 103 in August (second highest temp ever recorded in August)?! and went back to cool and wet again after that? The heat didn't come back until November and then never left again until over a year later lol.
  17. weird it's also happening in areas that are in megadroughts. It is the monsoon season though! Any reports of excessive reports out of the Asian monsoons?
  18. Several years ago, I remember the SW part of Nassau county had flooding rainfalls with a stalled storm in July, do you remember this Chris? Basements were flooded, and I believe JFK got between 4 and 5 inches of rain? This isn't the 10 inch deluge that happened here in August 2011, this was a much more localized event that only hit southern Queens and SW Nassau county.
  19. Whats the cause of this sudden global rainfall increase all across the world, even in areas experiencing a super drought? It's almost like we have a monster storm circulating across the entire planet, our own version of the Great Red Spot.
  20. With the downsloping wind, could JFK beat NYC in temps the next two days, Don, and get to 90+ both days?
  21. Could this be signs of a developing El Nino? We had very cool nights in August just prior and during the Perseid meteor shower back in the mid 80s just before an El Nino.
  22. Definitely along the coast too. Higher mins and some blunting of extremes of highs, but still warmer than normal overall. The added moisture makes it more difficult to achieve higher maximums but does raise the floor with the higher mins. I noticed the added moisture in the West. One thing we need to remember is that added moisture in the air does not necessarily equate to more rainfall (it does in the East but maybe not in the West.)
  23. Funny how these storms always seem to do this. It's like a repeating pattern. Cant be a coincidence. The electrical grid is so fragile here that a couple of distant lightning flashes takes the power down lol.
  24. Looks like absolutely nothing happened here, the moon is out and no signs of any clouds anywhere.
  25. Latest 0 on record on Long Island was during that period.
