  1. thats correct, I always express this in terms of human lifetimes. Because human beings themselves exist for limited time spans, nothing they create (whether concrete structures or nations) can exist for unlimited time spans either.
  2. 70% of the planet is covered by oceans-- why can't we put these farms on artificial floating islands in the middle of the ocean? We can put these installations in the middle of the oceans can we not?
  3. We should talk some actual science here. I'm very excited to see how this and the new (actually very old and now dead) star Earendel will be modeled on space sims like Space Engine. https://twitter.com/i/events/1511317799284711429 Scientists have discovered a gigantic exoplanet that's still 'in the womb' Researchers have observed an enormous planet — called AB Aur b — that's about nine times the mass of Jupiter, and is at a remarkably early stage of formation. It's providing new insight into our understanding of the universe, and the "complex and messy" nature of planet formation. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WHL0137-LS WHL0137-LS, also known as Earendel, is a star in the constellation of Cetus. Discovered in 2022 by the Hubble Space Telescope, it is the most distant known star, at a comoving distance of 28 billion light-years.[2][3] The previous farthest known star, at a comoving distant of 14.4 billion light-years, was discovered in 2018, also by Hubble.[3] Now ask how we can see a star that is 28 billion light years away when the universe is supposedly half that age lol. The key is the word "comoving distance" meaning the star was likely less than half that distance away when the light left there and space has expanded that much in the time it took for that light to get here. And that star likely went supernova and died out billions of years ago (which we might detect in the distant future-- if we are still around lol.)
  4. what drought? there hasn't been a drought here since 2002? We dont need a single drop of rain
  5. Population reduction would be better for the planet
  6. These communities need to be prevented from being able to oppose this....and why are they opposed to solar and hydroelectric? I don't get that at all.
  7. he doesn't seem to be pro renewable all the way, he seems to like methane as a bridge fuel.
  8. Fusion will be ready within our lifetimes, it's like creating our own suns, why get power from 93 million miles away when you can make a small star right on our own planet!
  9. You don't think nuclear fusion is the solution either? Based on what I've been reading, controllable nuclear fusion should be ready within the next few decades. Methane isn't part of the solution dude, the fossil fuel cartels need to be removed from the equation.
  10. I've been holding fast to 2-3, and 2 in most cases. Hopefully that's good enough.
  11. I graded it a C for here, because although there were two decent storms (one 6" and one 12"+) the total snowfall was right around average (being between NYC and the places east of here who got the 2 foot amounts). Even if we had gotten the 2 foot snowfall back here, it would in no way have been an all timer, as Jan 2016 was FAR superior to it in many ways (not just the 30"+ snowfall, but also for duration of 30 hours and wind and verified blizzard conditions for 12 straight hours.)
  12. Are these all at airports? It makes me wonder if we can get official weather reporting locations outside of airports in other parts of the country not completely covered by airports. Like the north shore of Long Island and the south shore of Nassau County locally.
  13. Actually I don't know how they look but others have posted how they look in screenshots. Which is why I've decided to limit myself. My main problem with the multiquote issue is when talking about different things in the same thread, it has an awkward look when everything is posted on in a single post. I've done that before and read back the post and it's hard to follow a train of thought if let's say half a dozen different things are being talked about in the same post. I have to click back to see what each part of the post was in response to. Single posts can have a similar issue when talking about separate things in the same thread but at least if you're following a single conversation within the thread it's less distracting. But I see when it gets to a lot of consecutive posts it's self-defeating. And to Mr Gravity, I never said he in particular was stupid, I just think it's an odd thing to complain about, if it's just a few posts, but if it's say half a dozen or a dozen posts I understand-- and I lose track of how many I make after awhile. Which is why I think self-limiting to 2-3 is a far better idea.
  14. On the trajectory we're on right now it's going to be difficult to avoid 2.0C, let alone 1.5C. I think the current best estimate is for 2.2C warming? And why are nations like China on a spending spree for building more coal plants? Hopefully they see the light soon.
  15. Thats probably what they have at my other place then. 2000 ft but south of I-80.
  16. Fracking and all that it entails are huge environmental issues and I don't want to give the fossil fuel cartels a leg to stand on. This is more than just about climate, it's also about health issues and ethics. If anything the fossil fuel cartels are worse than the tobacco cartels.
  17. I can. I don't see a problem with making multiple posts because I read from a computer. I don't use (nor have) a cellphone period. So I decided to self limit to 2 or max 3 posts in a row, that's it.
  18. where does nuclear fit in here? why not substitute nuclear for methane (what you call "natural" gas)-- I have major issues with methane and it's definitely not clean. I'd far rather have more nuclear plants and ban all fossil fuels entirely
  19. The bad part is, although the developed world has been the major reason for the climate crisis, it's the developing world that's going to pay the most for it. We'll be okay-- we can absorb the costs, but what they will pay will set them back by decades. In the long run it will be better for them of course, but in the short term they will face a lot of issues.
  20. There's been people asking me why they don't just take water from the Pacific, distill it, and use that lol.
  21. the wind by itself was enough to qualify for severe weather here-- I thought my windows were going to blow in-- winds over 60 mph
  22. we need to look at it more as a rapid warming of the west pac not a la nina
  23. too humid, Arizona is better
