  1. We just want a strong SE ridge to keep this crap weather out of here. Don
  2. why cant we just get a strong SE ridge to keep this shit blocked off to the west, I'd much rather have 65 and sunny.
  3. so they added 0.6" to the storm total?
  4. I think I asked this before, how do you have a la nina background state with the oceans warming so much? Shouldnt all the oceans be steaming hot within the next few years? I cant wait until steam is rising from the Pacific.
  5. we shouldn't believe any forecast of a pattern change until the pattern actually changes. It's really no different from 2001-02
  6. Speaking of which the sunrise yesterday was awesome and I can tell the days are getting longer because I no longer have to turn my lights on before 4:30! Now I turn them on at 4:45
  7. and right under that he asks for money for his newsletter to cover that time period LOL Not a coincidence.
  8. Jan 2002 was rather cold and we had a -nao for 3 weeks but the snowstorm went into the Carolinas.
  9. Chicago will just barely miss out on its longest period without measurable snow if they get any today. Three more days is all they needed. Weird to have Denver and Chicago at or near record levels in this category in the same year.
  10. the -nao is useless it would be better if it was a +nao right now and we were in the 60s and the 70s. One, heating costs and two, 40s and 50s are useless and three, when the pattern does change the -nao time will probably be used up so we still wont get any snow.
  11. more likely than not we'll have a super el nino within the next 2 years
  12. if we get one 6 inch event this season we'll be lucky
  13. I mean it would make more sense if storms that were suppressed and going to go south and east of here were now hitting the jersey shore and long island because of a stronger southeast ridge....the north trend on modeling seems to be real
  14. 2010-11 was also a great el nino to la nina and 2016-17 not bad either
  15. yes I love the hot and dry combo, we had that in 1993 too and also in 2010
  16. I remember we got like 1-2 inches or so out of storms that seemed like they would be major for us.
  17. several things active tropical season yes but also the fact that so many of those storms recurved without hitting the east coast that seems to be an important factor in determining storm tracks also the very hot and very dry summer compared to 1933-34 in many respects 2010-11 was another unusual winter we had to reach far back for analogs to that one like 1916-17
  18. according to Ray he reads messages but hasn't responded
  19. I was 8 and thats my first snowstorm memory I remember it so clearly I woke up to see it at 3 am when it first started falling and then saw it fall all day. The snow stuck around all week and there was another snow event the following weekend.
  20. suppression the snow went south of us
