  1. wow thats some ratio lol was 4.6 the total snowfall for the entire storm? I remember it to be somewhat higher than that....
  2. Yea that was the pink snowstorm I was thinking of and we got a low of 1 on back to back nights I think? Were predicted to go below zero but it never happened.
  3. Thanks Don, do you also have pictures from the Jan 2009 pink sunset snowstorm? Also, I'm not sure of the exact date of this storm, based on your site it says 27-29 but based on the numbers Chris posted it happened from the 14-15th or were those two different storms?
  4. How can one find the snowfall report of this storm for the entire area? I want to see all the airport totals but also the spotter reports? Based on the LGA numbers it was 6.8 inches of snow on 0.09 inches of liquid wow...... 75:1?
  5. yes that was measured at 10-11 inches in the Rockaways and Western Long Island, ended just after sunrise on the 15th and a last heavy blitz of snow came down as the sun was rising and the color of the sunrise made the snow look pink! It was absolutely amazing..... the only other time I saw pink snow was at sunset during January 2009.
  6. You remembered! Do you have any pictures of that pink hue by any chance, Don? Jan 2004 I think? I wish I had taken pictures of it but I still remember it so vividly in my mind. We had a similar storm in Jan 2009....and in that occasion it was pink snow at sunset!
  7. Jan 2004- do you remember that one? single digits....10-11 inches of snow? heavy snow at sunrise and the snow looking pink as it came down?
  8. Don do you remember the storm during the 03-04 winter when we had temps in the single digits and had ratios of 25:1 to 40:1 with LGA having an astounding 80:1 ratio? We had almost a foot of snow in that one. 11 inches at Far Rockaway if I remember correctly. Was that the one when we had heavy snow at sunrise and the color of the sunrise made the snow look pink as it came down?
  9. I would have loved to stay up all night but there's not much to see when it's pitch black outside lol. I did stay awake from 3-6 and that was enough for me. Slept 11-3 and then 6-9.
  10. Didnt one of those storms in the 03-04 winter have an 80:1 ratio at LGA and 40:1 over the rest of the area? Temps were in the single digits and we got about 10-11 inches of snow.
  11. 1999 is an interesting analog, another one where we had a snowy January and a snowy March. I noticed that my area is usually in or near the jackpot if we have a big storm during a strong El Nino otherwise we are the snowhole of Long Island
  12. Sound enhanced, a similar thing happened in December 1995 when LGA had 14" and NYC had 8" and JFK had 7" ISP had 12" in that one.
  13. lol good I guess they do measure end of storm totals but dont publish them until the full 6 hours is up. Too bad NYC total didn't go to 6" though..... I guess we can round 5.8" to 6.0" and call this a warning level storm for the city especially with the totals in Queens.
  14. Is there a reason these people dont measure when the storm ends? Dont they pay these guys enough? NYC, LGA and JFK all have 7 am as their last measurement.
  15. Has to be some sort of sound effect or sound enhanced impact. This was the perfect example. No chance of a changeover or any mixing so it can't be anything else. The only times that the south shore, specifically the western part of the south shore has had the most snow is during super el nino HECS...... great examples are Feb 1983, Feb 2003 and Jan 2016. Glad I got to experience a 30" + snowstorm here, it might never happen in my lifetime again.
  16. This is a good reason for not giving out participation prizes. Either you win or you lose, "almost" is the same as losing.
  17. Glad to see ENSO becoming more meaningless as time goes on, maybe people will now stop using it as a crutch in their long range forecasting.
  18. That was a big storm here on Long Island and let's not forget it created that horrible crane accident in the city. It was also a very snowy superbowl week.
  19. One more? This was a moderate event for the most part. I say we see one twice as big as this one later this month and then maybe 1 moderate and 1 big one in March.
  20. Good to see ENSO becoming more meaningless as time goes on this is a positive side effect of CC.
