  1. How do you have this giant slug of moisture that covers almost the entire nation north to south shrink so quickly? we shouldn't even need a coastal to get snow here, that northern storm should be enough
  2. You'll probably get them even when the weather gets a little warmer, those plowable snows are far more common where you live than they are down here
  3. The problem is models are based on mathematics not marketing, so they should be objective....
  4. so warm in 2016 and then an HECS in about 2 weeks!
  5. ha JFK didn't even have a freezing or below day....
  6. old fashioned long duration snowstorm, did it stall offshore or loop around, Tony?
  7. indeed, I can do without these useless winds.
  8. well if we are on the northern fringe, it will snow on Long Island too.
  9. and then back to snowy in March? That happens in la ninas too.
  10. Looks like permanent DST will become a reality.... this year?
  11. Snowman is laughing at everyone but he doesn't understand most people are happy with just an inch or two of snow. We aren't skiiers or anything and we don't live in the mountains so why would we even care how much it snows as long as it snows?: 1 inch or 10 inches or 100 inches, snow is snow and no one really cares how much falls as long as it's snow. The best part about small snowfalls, you don't have to shovel ANYTHING.
  12. You'll learn to enjoy our lower snowfall winters going forward. Trust me, it's a lot of fun to track low snowfall storms too. Every inch counts and is a lot of fun to track and see (especially when it falls during the day.) It's a lot more fun than tracking 4 inch snow that changes to rain, trust me.
  13. Looks like the Arctic, Ed, I wonder if we set record low SST that month?
  14. Oh 10-20 miles sounds good, but do you recall when we have strong northwesterly winds we have streamers of snow showers set up south of us over the ocean? Would it only take 10-20 miles to tap into that?
  15. omg we have rabies here 8 cases of rabies in Nassau county over the past week (mostly rabid raccoons and feral cats). On ABC they said that raccoons with rabies make a weird high pitched shrieking sound and that's exactly what I heard in my backyard at night a few weeks ago....
  16. 100 miles is close enough to bring in more sound effect snow on NW winds though. Ever notice on satellite there's this almost permanent band of snow showers south of Long Island when we have strong NW winds? That's what I want to tap into.
  17. wow you raised the January mean prediction from 30.3 to 30.5 Don!
  18. thanks for clarifying Walt....at least the cold will extend a little bit beyond the end of January.
  19. 2014-15 was my favorite winter.... do you know what the coldest SST were? I remember reading eastern LI was getting freezing drizzle on an onshore wind!
  20. If Long Island were somehow shoved about 100 miles southeast I guarantee it would have a lot more snow.
  21. I thought they were colder because of their snow cover?
  22. at this rate Delaware will have more snow than either NYC or BOS this season.
  23. and somehow cold again after 1/22 and to close out the month
