  1. In New Windsor, Carroll County. Looking west from the fire department and the Catoctin Mts just faded out. Really raw too.
  2. I somehow quoted the wrong post on mobile. Disregard.
  3. Actually, no. The decision is harder to make than you would think. MARC and VRE run only one way because of shared tracking with Amtrak and CSX so there are a lot of rail logistics to iron out. Even with a plan in place, which there is, it takes at least two hours to switch business operations.
  4. 1/7: Federal offices in the Washington, DC area status: Early Departure 4 hour staggered early release all employees must depart no later than 1:00 PM. https://t.co/XNpFS40aXT https://t.co/4UsMzYfwwA
  5. I thought it was being discontinued in Jan 2020?
  6. SREF is not an operational product anymore.
  7. Yea, just saw the WWA and ZFP go out so the maps should be following shortly.
  8. VDOT and DC DOT are reviewing MDOTs policy and how it is assessed for compliance by contractors. At least on paper, the program is solid and has been used elsewhere in the northeast. The plan has two tiers, one for events like the one forecast to occur and other's where at least 8 inches of snow is expected.
  9. Actually MDOT has implemented a change to their salting procedures to reduce salting and brine application on state roads. The change also affects their contractors. Excessive salt application is now limited to county and local government. The change started at the beginning of this year and is designed to limit runoff into waterways and sewer systems.
  10. Anniversary of the Blizzard of '96 today. The big daddy.
  11. It's because the weather is the one escape from the hellscape that is life.
  12. Let's save it for next year. I don't want some rogue 12" - 16" event that's gone in 48 hours.
  13. This is a phenomenal write up, and it's obvious you went through a lot to collate the information, thank you. I have two follow up questions for BWI. 1.) Would it be possible to re-run the data for 10 inch or greater events? 2.) Would it be possible to re-run the data for days when the high temperatures was at or below 32 degrees at BWI? I'm curious to see if there is any strong correlation for cold weather.
  14. I think @Bob Chilland @psuhoffman mentioned this before. Worth a read:
  15. My brother was born 12/19/89 in Philly. The hospital delayed letting our parents take him home by 2 days because it was so cold out. My dad still says it was the coldest he can rever remember it being in his now 67 years on this planet.
  16. Watch out for pickup trucks in the terminal
  17. There were 3 major NESIS storms during the period.
  18. If you live where the red X is, then I've drafted for a few fires near your house of Ebbvale and Fridinger Mill Rds...it's like another world up there in the winter. Super legit.
  19. The grocery industry is being destroyed by the yuppies who frequent Wegmans and Whole Foods. You're seeing food deserts now emerge in a lot of rural and urban low income areas alike. I always hoped, growing up, the future would be good, instead it's a dumpster fire of warm winters and expensive crapola.
