It matches the pattern since the snowfall increase in 02-03. Notice how the big February years had a snowy December and less snowy January and March. 13-14 was able to manage a snowy January but less snowy March. We pretty much knew the snowfall was going to come to quick stop following the record AO rise in mid-February. AO volatility has been a common feature for us in recent years. The 10-11 season cut off abruptly preventing us from catching 95-96 when the AO rapidly rose. 15-16 featured the epic AO reversal that gave us the +13 in December and 30” snowstorm in January. 17-18 featured another big AO swing which produced 80° in February and 30” of snow in March.

Definitely agree, and it's amazing how 02-03 was on par with this year for Dec. and Feb. but at least back then we had spring snow.

Only question is if we'll have to wait until May or June for it to actually get warm.  Recent springs around here have been abysmal.  The high was 45 degrees on Mother's Day two years ago.

Usually May is our ticket to good weather.  March is when we get a hint of some warmth (next week for example) and April is the transition.

I agree though, spring has tended to be a damp and cool season for us with brief warmups as of recently.  Fall is the opposite, a continuation of summer like Bluewave has mentioned.

even the city big snow piles will take a while to melt..

Right but "snow melt " in general doesn't include massive snow piles, those are artifically created and 10+ feet in some cases. It's understood those will be around long after the grass is bare.

That's a convenient way of putting up an argument without having to actually do the work. Well played. No wonder I so often find myself impatient with the flow of traffic around me here, locally.

Do you actually think he means the snow melted down to .33"?  That's the LE dude.

Wantage NJ 3.5" act 1130A. Snowing lightly.

Today is an excellent example of why snow boards, decks are used for snow measuring.  The black pavement, grill covers are melting snow while snowboards, decks still accumulate snow at the current 1mi snow rate... T 27.5.  Thats why light snow events are so nice for us, but easily manageable (wet) for the roads, during the higher sun angle part of the day.

Yeah our driveway is literally spotless after shoveling it.  Once you expose the blacktop/pavement/concrete any snow disappears quickly.

Same here , only .3 since 2pm lol

Yeah ever since then it basically shut off.  Getting icy now though.

Roughly the same here based on spotter reports.  Don't know if it's the old piles contributing to the look, the persistent glazing since about 2PM, or both, but after cleaning it up I can say that for 4" this thing definitely outpunched its weight class.

This stretch we've been in has really given us the most "deep winter" feel in quite awhile.  This is going to be one of those Springs that really feels as though we are thawing out after the winter freeze.

The mods are doing the best that they can but when you have posters that should know better just babbling about whatever on a regular basis in storm threads it gets tough to keep up. All they need to do is hit the + quote and then quote the person in the banter or monthly thread and continue to convo.

Yeah agreed, they can't keep up with everything.

4° and 18 inches of snow otg, paradise.

I can't visit the other NYC forums anymore. I believe Julian alluded to something similar in the last few days. The things I read there it's like being on another planet. They've never seen snow like this, they've never seen snow otg this long before, they've never seen an ice storm, they've never experienced sub zero cold. Where do some of these people live, has the NYC forum extended down to the Carolinas? I know the NJ Coastal plain and NYC is a different climate than the HV,  NWNJ and interior CT but it seems over the top to me. Just one mans opinion.

And not only that, but the storm threads go way off topic as of late.

Rain wasn’t much today but snowpack actually took a decent hit from the sun and  temperature.

Definitely lost a good amount today.  You can feel the strength of the sun increasing as it actually feels warm in direct sunlight on days like this.

And that’s basically what I have on the ground as well but no doubt more fell but snow was compacting , I bet many of those higher totals don’t have the same amount on the ground that they say fell

That's what I'm thinking too.  Definitely settled down.

@hudsonvalley21 and anyone else interested, I’m working remote this week so I’ll be home for the storm. I have my two snow boards near each other. I’m going to measure and clear one every 6 hours or so, ain’t getting up in the middle of the night for this shit, and I’ll measure and clear once every 24 hours until it’s over on the other board.

I'm interested as well actually.  Definitely should see inflated totals when you clear the board often.
