Some of my tomato plants had started putting out new growth and blossoms over the past few weeks but last night put the kibosh on that. Funny how the killing freeze comes at climo time despite the torch month.

Yep, I said this in the other thread.  I'm right at climo for first frost.  Killing Freeze usually comes sometime in November.

Yeah, it is a bummer.  When the cooler weather hit late August, I was very hopeful for a vibrant color season, but not to be.  The hot weather killed it.

The dryness didn't help either.  A lot of trees turned brown and the leaves were as crunchy as could be.

Certainly feels like October out there.  Big change from last weeks heat and humidity.

Abnormally warm weather is over. Winter settled north of the arctic line on the northern hemisphere as of a few hours ago. Places like Noril'sk and Barrow won't see above freezing temperatures as of a few hours ago until spring time at least.

I saw a flock of Canadian geese today going south that usually means snow is coming soon. I think this winter may be late but it will be strong!

Remember, meteorological fall began September 1st. That day we had the coolest shot of air thus far this autumn. So fall already arrived during  technical summer. We had temps in the 40's around September 1st in most places except Central Park which I'm critical of the reading. I think we may get some interesting weather phenomena this upcoming winter where snow to warmth happens a lot. We may get a foot of snow and than the next day is warm and above normal freezing, quick melting snow systems.

Monday night looks pretty cold for the metro, my forecast low is 36.  Tuesday also looks seasonable, which is chilly compared to what we've been experiencing.  This is only a blip in the pattern though.  The weekend will be AN, with Sunday potentially making a run for 80 in spots.  After the cool down it looks to warm back up as well, and the long range GFS (I know I know) seems to support this.

As has been the trend since 2015, expect temps to over-perform and cold shots to be transient.

The littering of my yard in leaves has begun already, which seems a touch early for IMBY

Definitely early here, although our one Dogwood has been dropping leaves since late August.  It has something to do with that particular tree though, since the other Dogwood is green and healthy.

What I don't understand is why doesn't the NWS take a stand for a change and call this kind of stuff unprofessional? I liked it when DirecTV took them off the air for their ridiculous primetime programming.

Yeah, I mean it depends when you watch as well.  During certain time slots, especially during the winter and severe season, they bring on more experts etc. and show more analysis.

Watching TWC just now, Paul Goodloe and another on air person I don't recognize are doing a segment called 'car wash', apparently talking about whether the weather in select cities is good for car washing.  The song 'Car Wash' is playing, and they are both dancing while doing the segment.  It was probably only three minutes, but felt like 3 hours.  I'm sure that if either is a meteorologist, they were thinking 'this is not what I had in mind.'

Yeah, they do stuff like that sometimes lol.  Personally, I think that TWC tries to gear the content more towards the average watcher.  If they went into great detail, (and I wish they would more often), a lot of people would probably tune out since they just want quick weather updates.  I still like watching, don't get me wrong, and there is definitely lots of great analysis from some mets there.  Dave Schwartz was one of my favorites.
