You may not hit top 10 if you get a cold snap
Keep in mind mid 40s isn’t that much above normal as you close in middle and later in the month
if you get one of those Weaks below normal, you pull away from the warmest months on record
Now if mid 40s becomes mid 60s, We are off to the races
Well next week could feature several 50's, so that makes for easy AN departures of +10 or greater.

Oh well.
If it keeps up, this winter will make last year look great.

wow, you're throwing in the towel? You can tell it's bad. Real bad.
Well he's certainly not jumping on these 10 day threats like he used to, and for that, I give him credit. That inner weenie is not an easy thing to contain.

we had i think one in december and one earlier this month i think highs were in the 20;s.
I don't have the stats for my area in particular, but that is still BN. Late December '17 into January '18 had a decent stretch of cold, and as bad as last year was, January featured more arctic air.
Next week we welcome February with the potential to see 50 or higher for several days.

We also have to break out of this dry pattern we've gotten into this month...which looks to continue thru the first week of February.
The thing that amazes me is the lack of cold highs. January should "always" have some days where highs lock in the 20's, especially in NW Jersey. It's like the opposite of summer where we don't have crazy highs but warm lows.

Yeah the sun was surprisingly comforting today wasn't it. I was standing on the south side of a wall and it was truly warm and pleasant, much more so than the calendar date would have implied.
I got to 51 at home but saw 55 near KDXR.
Definitely a nice day to enjoy before the washout tomorrow.

If you blindfolded me and took me outside today I would say it is mid April outside. Birds chirping on campus and I feel hot in my winter jacket.
Feels very warm for January 24th, especially in the sun.

During the Winter of 1780 the waters of NY Harbor froze over completely (I'm hoping you have some kind of research on that). Troops were able to walk heavy cannons over the river from Manhattan to NJ. Think of how cold that winter must have been around NYC for that to happen. My guess would be the monthly average during one of the Met winter months or maybe a couple of them had to be 15° or below. If anything like that happened now it would be heralded as the end of the world.
Wow, very interesting. That was a brutal Winter indeed, the same one in fact where Washington set up camp in Morristown.

13 inches so far this season (running on par with last year IMBY).
This year, 8 of those inches came from one storm in December, whereas last season, 7 were a result of the November storm.

To see these pics one would think that 5+' of snow had fallen, but reading that it was 'only' 27", my first thought was heck various parts of the tri-state area have seen amounts like this in the past 10 years, much of which occurred in blizzard conditions, yet I don't recall pics or videos quite like this,. Even accounting for the fact that cameras and social media are even more prevalent now than say 5 years ago, what's the difference between this storm and ours? Was this different because the the wind was waaayyy stronger?
I think it's because the winds were very strong like Cp mentioned, and they already had snow on the ground too.

2.6 on my picnic table ? What time Didi u measure ?
10:30pm, when I got home from work.

2 inches here in Butler, what'd you end up with @rgwp96?
The problem with people is that they think their vehicles are snow capable, and they very well might be, but the tires they have are complete garbage. Most people have no idea how much tires really mean.

Have had several periods of wind driven wet snow today.

Pretty heavy rain and strong gusts came through about an hour ago.

Anybody else think we bust high today?
Look at that sun!
Probably will, usually the case with warm anomalies like today.

Absolutely ripping downpours, hail, and deep thunder. Sure doesn't feel like the end of December.

It's almost tradition at this point for Feb and March to carry the whole winter. I'm keeping the faith.
Right, it's as if November and December provide a tease, January is a transition and can go either way, then February/March turns the switch on. I could deal with a longer winter if we could actually get rid of the cold and rainy April into May stretches that have also become common.

The high temperature reached 57 degrees in NYC on Monday. This warmth right before Christmas has become really pronounced since 2001. NYC has gone 17 out of the last 19 years reaching 55 or warmer in the week before Christmas.
It's a heck of a trend to say the least. Almost expected at this point.

Yup. I bought the first new car of my life in June of 2018 (sonata) and because I had no loan history at all at nearly age 40 and only one credit card I got a lousy 5.8% loan rate. To make it more shocking I payed 50% in cash too so my loan was for a lousy 14,500 and 2 banks despite a credit score of 740-750 straight up turned me down due to lack of history. People often ask me why did you not just pay the whole car off then? I said because I wanted to get some sort of history on my record before buying a house. I payed the loan off a few months ago in one shot. My credit score is now 812.
Meanwhile the 2018 Sonata has had some issues for sure. A couple of times it has not immediately started in cold weather and I've had to hit the button 4-5 times. Some folks in the Plains/Midwest last winter could not get them started at all and had to have the solenoid assemblies replaced. Oddly enough it was never recalled to this day.
You could always take a loan out on a used car for a smaller amount too if building credit is the goal. That's what I typically do, never bought new.
As for brand, I love Ford. The Ecoboost is good from what I hear, but I've only had the 5.0 V8.

that was my best snow squall EVER, it snowed at varying rates for 7 hours, from 4 PM to 11 PM and all the roads here were snow covered multiple times!
I've seen better, but not a bad squall. I was more surprised by the several bouts of wind blown snow we had, despite getting maybe .50" or so.

Yea that’s what I had , thought it would be more since it snowed on and off all night but never added up to much more than that lol.
Yeah yesterday was a lot "snowier" than I thought it would be, but not much out of it. Next week looks to moderate.
-
@rgwp96 any idea what we got? Been a very cold/windy evening with a couple squalls. I think it's about .50" maybe.

Remember a documentary about a guy who got stuck there during a snowstorm years ago. Dude starved to death in his van. Apparently some roads get closed in the winter there. It was really sad, the guy wrote letters of farewell to everyone.
Yeah not a place I'd want to be under any circumstances.

Where is this? That’s insane I need to have a winter house there when I become rich
Gotta be either Sierra Nevada or Cascades. Need a heck of a moisture feed for that. Way more than we get in an entire season over a three day period, insane.
