1 inch on Jan 3rd
Thanks, that's what I thought but wasn't home.

Up to 1.6 lol
I thought we'd see at least three inches honestly.
What did you record for the January 3rd event btw?

This winter definitely feels colder than last. I think it's due to the daytime highs. Hasn't been unseasonably cold at night (generally 20's here), but many days that were forecast to get into the 40's have remained in the upper 30's.
The longer days are getting more noticeable which is nice.

Just frustrating man
People keep hyping up everything and it never happens.
Even you have to admit, this has been the trend for the last few seasons. I dislike this pattern too, don't get me wrong. Cold and dry is boring.

Remember Alberta clippers???
They were fun back in the 90s. Occasionally one would drop 3 or 4” inches of powder followed by real cold...Honestly, small events keep things from being boring like right now. I'm always interested in tracking clippers and even lake effect squalls that drop a quick inch.

Ended with about 8" (some spots slightly less). Not bad, definitely less than expected. Feels like winter nonetheless.

After a low of 31 made it to 71 for the high, 69 currently. Stellar weather.
Tomorrow through next Wednesday is forecasted to be 70 or greater IMBY. That's pretty remarkable considering we are heading into the second week of November.

I just saw them. The control and other members are more amped than the OP. Even if the low ends up hugging, it would be nice to see see a southern stream low phase or not get suppressed.
Thanks, I like that layout.

Updated CoCoRAHS 1 day graphic. Will update again later. Suspect there is more wind damage out there on LI than announced so far. Also, many reports of G40kt or greater e of I95 early today per datascope-weatherflow.
I'll be interested in all reports our NYC forum of 3+".
In my opinion the models generally focused NYC-NJ-Hud Valley on 1.5"+ as we drew closer to the event and I felt they handled handled the potential for damaging gusts quite well.
The expected NJ coast development after 11P last night ended up further West and became much narrower crossing the eastern part of the forum at dawn.
Still, considering only 30 hours of rain at most, many cases less than 8 hours...these amounts are pretty good With spotty 4+ Berskhires and near PHL (n and s of forum). I did not check WU two day reports...
E LI your time will come...will try to comment more on projected max qpf axis in the future.
I'll update just before Noon on rainfall and wind. Thanks for your comments (-/+) 747A/310
Around 2:00am that heavy axis of rain swung through and really helped contribute to those two inch and greater amounts in Northern Morris. It was a decent event earlier, but that batch was what we needed to soak things.

As best as you're gonna get.
I wonder if the early cool down and rather dry conditions will trigger early foliage this year. I'm already seeing colors popping up.
Yeah I'm seeing things start to slightly change as well.

Textbook weather for the first day of Fall. Gorgeous skies and warm sun, can't beat it.

NYC could see one of its latest first 50s of the season next week.
Not surprising to see '15 and '16 on there.
Very curious how this Fall unfolds, and if it'll be more of what we've seen recently.

It'll be hot again for sure. Three weeks takes us to Labor Day weekend though and by that point, evidence of the seasonal shift will be abundant.
Lol you knew that a post like this couldn't be made without me commenting
This year, I find that the wind down of Summer is definitely a lot harder to grasp because of COVID. Usually I feel maxed out and content that everything I could have done was actually achieved. Hoping next year is a lot better, and I think it will be so long as people take this seriously and pay attention to their health.

Looks like MPO may finally end their record 55 or warmer minimum temperature streak. LGA could also break their 70° minimum streak.
I'm very impressed by that LGA record. The trend continues of very warm minimums and humid weather.

Well to be fair....yes particles can get through a face covering, but it's not like they have a zero impact. There was a simulation I saw where an ordinary face covering was used and it was found that whereas an uncovered face can transmit droplets 8 ft during a cough or a sneeze, with a face covering that's cut down to around 6 inches. Hence the reason why the best way to go about it is to couple a face covering with physical distancing. And it's a lot easier to achieve a safe physical distance with a face covering than without.
Logically, this makes sense too. Think of what it sounds like when you talk through a face covering. Your voice becomes muffled and you have to talk louder right? That's the face covering having an effect. And virus particles travel at way less than the speed of sound and are much easier to filter than sound is.
Right, I never claimed that they're entirely ineffective. My point is that some states do not have mandatory mask requirements, and so let's say someone sneezes and/or coughs without a face covering but you have one on, the particles will get through the fabric when you inhale (especially loose fitting or improperly worn ones). Now in states like NJ, NY, etc. that make everyone wear a mask, it is somewhat better because now "spittle" is contained, and each person has a barrier up as opposed to just one.
Ultimately, in a perfect world, we would all need to have medical grade N95 masks and actually pay attention to how we handle our PPE. I see people all the time with a mask in their hand as they grab the handle of a shopping cart or open a door. Now imagine all the germs, besides COVID, that are on those surfaces, being introduced to your face.
