my house temp was 83.4 this afternoon the a/c needed to be turned on. No way no how would I -EVER- open the windows the allergens are awful and humidity is my mortal enemy. If I could invent an antimatter bomb to annihilate all humidity I would do so in a heartbeat.
Wow, how did it get up to 83 in the house? It's 73 in ours and we haven't run any AC in weeks.

upton says it will be pushed south by high pressure developing over NE
Yeah I guess we have to see. Seems like there are some breaks out west in PA. Clouds keeping temps lower than expected.
Finally able to get back on the GOES website. It was down for awhile.

I have my A.C on right now
Awful for October
You need AC for this? That explains why you melt in the summer then lol.

On clear chilly nights with no wind, the difference in temperatures can be impressive. Not only the difference between city and rural but even where a temperature sensor is located. For example, I have a vantage vue located about 20 ft. off the ground and the temperature is 54. About 30 feet away is a vantage pro sensor 6 ft. off the ground, which is what the NWS says is the correct height, and that reading is 51.
Yeah radiational cooling allows the outer suburbs to drop very quickly.
On a muggy night in July, the heat island will still make it warmer in the city than imby, but sometimes not by much. Cool nights like this however I'm easily 10-15+ degrees less than the park.

Easy +10 through mid October. Highs in the low to mid 70s with some days near 80.
Lows not getting below 54-55. Probably another top 5 warmest month if not higher.
Very scary stuff
Follows the trend of recent years where we get some brief cooldowns in between the warmth like Bluewave mentioned above.

Next week looks dreary
Pretty mild though, especially overnight lows considering it's October.

Nice shots Don. This hazy smoky air reminds me of earlier this summer. Certainly doesn't have a mid-September feel.
I'm loving this extended warmth.

the only way to do it is to just shut the roads down so people cant travel, that will take the decision making process out of their hands.
And then you have to stop every vehicle to see who's essential and who isn't? NWS puts out the warnings, it's up to the public to read and interpret them.

62 degrees. I’m freezing.
57 currently. It's so weird how cool it feels, I'm actually chilly. Just been so hot and humid that this dry air feels like that.

The water table for most areas must be high enough that basements will flood with those kind of totals even away from rivers. Not good.
Definitely expecting basement flooding. I haven't had to add water to the pool all summer, maybe just once. That never happens.

Ground is really soaked around here...additional rain next couple days along with possible Ida, maybe some problems.
Way too much rain lately. Hoping September turns dry/warm after Ida.

Wasn't he just saying it's been a cool summer? Or am I getting him confused with other posters?
Lmao, remember the end of summer was in sight after the solstice.

No idea how much, but still raining. Wunderground precip map from Mt. Holly has me in “purple” colors. I would guess 6+ at this point.
Yeah all surrounding stations are 5"+ here. Enough to get water in the basement, thankfully not too bad.
Definitely enough rain for awhile.

This is looking like one of the stronger cold fronts that the Northeast has seen at the end of July in quite some time. The 850 mb temperatures in New England will be near the coldest on record since 1979. So it’s possible that places like EWR and NYC can see a rare dip below 60° for the end of July.
Upper 40's and lower 50's in the outer burbs, pretty impressive.

70-75 is so much nicer than hot and steamy. I understand appreciating the extremes but why root for unpleasant?
This weather is terrible if you enjoy the beach/pool. Last weeks weather was far better.

After June 6th it's supposed to be well over 90 and even approaching 100.
I'd be fine with that, so long as it's more of a dry heat.
We really only have 3 core months of heat- June, July, August. Spring is just cool and grey as of recent, with some bursts of warmth here and there.

I hate to say it but I gave in and have the mosquito guys come and spray every couple weeks. It’s the only thing that works. I tried growing lemon grass, I tired using one of those propane powered traps. None of it worked. It got so bad I would get 3-4 bites just walking the garbage to the curb.
Not sure about you, but the gnats are a problem too. I've been bit up pretty bad so far, but they're all from those tiny things. All of a sudden there's a pinch and some blood, forget about the itching. Even some anti-itch cream barely helps.
