July 2025 Discussion-OBS - seasonable summer variability

Absolutely pouring in Astoria, Queens. Honestly haven't seen rain like this in a couple of years. Streets are flooding. -

99 degrees near LGA, but 27% humidity. It has definitely felt worse. -

Not sure what's going on in the Bronx/lower Westchester but absolutely crazy lightning show happening to my north/northeast (I'm in Astoria). -
Severe thunderstorm warning for the immediate NYC metro.
-
So did LGA not get a freeze? No signs of freeze damage around here.
-
Very nice here in NYC. Too bad there's still salt all over the roads and it won't be going anywhere anytime soon. I've never seen so much salt for a dusting of snow.
-
FWIW all snow here in Saugerties, Hudson Valley (right on the river). A little over 4” OTG. Both radar and Accuweather were showing wintry mix/sleet but it was big white fluffy flakes, no sleet or rain. Hoping the same for points east. Winding up now but expecting ice fest in the morning.
-
Astoria has a solid 3”. Heaviest snow I’ve seen in a long time earlier. Ripping sleet up until a few minutes ago. Now back to snow. Not as heavy as earlier but big flakes.
-
I’ve never seen such disparity between the HRRR and NAM than I have with these last two storms. 6+ inches or near nothing. Based on the last storm, I’m hanging my hat on the NAM (near nothing).
-
Interesting trends on the HRRR. 6z NAM also showed a bit more snow for NYC Metro. The 12z run will be very telling.
-
Ping city over here in NW Queens. Much earlier than expected. Gotta hand it to the NAM.
-
10" isn't too far fetched. I think both the HRRR and 3k NAM this morning had near 10" for New Orleans.

They've already started:
