“Weird” by definition can be quite subjective. From bird watching/photography, to fantasy sport leagues, to golf, to casual romance, to the love of snow. The least common denominator of all harmless obsessions is pleasure and enjoyment. If that to you is, indeed, weird, you have my sympathies even though your professional skill will always have my admiration. As always ....

As I sit here alone a few minutes after midnight I think back of the classic pictures of the puppies snuggled in the Christmas stockings awaiting the joy of the little one that will soon find them. I think of the unselfish unconditional love of the companions we oft times call pets. I think of how much we could learn from their love but many of us never do. On my block in historic Cobble Hill ( some of us old timers still refer to it as postal zip 10031, Red Hook) a row house ( I don’t refer to them as federal brownstones ) was sold for over six million. A smaller building at the end of the block went clearance last year at 2.3 million. The new owners then gut the place and put in as much or more than they paid for it. All that and you still have no parking. The area seems to attract celebrities. My daughters tell me about the famous who live on, near and around. I know the nice folks in the Kane Street Synagogue next to me and the fine family on the other side. I have a nodding acquaintance with folks up and down the block, other than that I am happy to preserve their anonymity, as I am my own. Anthony, Uncle is right, in 112 neighborhoods where the base row house price is seven figures, I still wouldn’t be comfortable walking at night unless I was dressed in your work clothes. As always ....

The neophyte hoarder begins by filling all the invisible places available. Drawers, closets, cellar, attic, garage. When all the spaces fill the invisible becomes visible and the twisted taffy of rationalization takes over. Everything is indispensable. The hoarder needs it all and cannot live without any of it. Eventually as the hoarder moves within the created canyons of indispensability, one column may collapse or an errant spark may take hold. The hoarder is gone and the space occupied is forever changed. As always ....

In the future you can buy a retirement place in the NNE and become reverse snow birds. I would prefer coastal Maine to be near my beloved ocean. When the coldest snowiest weather occurs go out to the park and make snow angels. Afterwards keep your partner close and warm. Those benefits to the cold and snow are difficult to improve on no matter how long your married. As always ......
