  5. Not a punishment at all. Who could complain about watching an adult, with a big stick, hit, almost invisible, little balls around thousands of yards of turf, rough, water and sand only to try to get said ball into an equally invisible small hole. “Not me” I’m fine with it. As always .....
  6. Anthony, I have never seen an Officer in uniform shorts. I guess I have to get to the beach more often. I do remember mounted police in Dyer Heights when I was a kid. Maybe Unc remembers also. I remember some older neighbors ready with a shovel to collect that vegetable enriching manure. 65+ years ago, not as many cars then. As always .......

  9. I recall reading a speculative article in the pre digital world of over 50 years ago that stated, if the prevailing winds were from the east, considering the Gulf Stream, palm trees could survive the winter at our coastal latitude. Well speculation is fun, sometimes, ignorance is bliss and I did like that last mid century musical, The Most Happy Fella”. Probably, as a result of today’s reality, “Standing on the corner watching all the (persons) go by” might not work as well. As always ...

  21. Wow. Now that’s frightening. At least the row houses are tilted towards the isolated back space and unless it’s you going over with the snow it’s generally harmless.
  22. I was born 8 months before the late Dec. 1947 storm. Like you, Unc, I’ve seen it all, boom to bust. Delivered mail in a raging blizzard. Nearly got blown of a row house roof trying to clear it after another snow deluge and of course have admired early spring flowers blooming in late January and February. I wonder now, with the changes in the atmosphere, how my experiences will end. As always ....
