2.20” of rain from the two cells this afternoon.  Some brief but large hail also.  Neighbor of mine shared this pic:

It’s about as soupy as it gets here.  Foggy and 79/77.

Lots of storms in this area the past two days.  All of them missed my yard.

Was driving along MD 17 in Brunswick. There is a set of trees that in the fall are the first to change color. There are two trees that are changing to their orange fall color. The trees are not dead they are just changing color early. Also while heading out 340 towards WV I saw many more trees changing color. Like the vibrant reds you get out that way. Is this because of the lack of rainfall and the tree just giving up on staying green? I have never seen trees this early be anything but green. 

The trees along Rt. 9 on top of the mountain at the WV-VA state line are full of vibrant fall colors.  I was very surprised to see that.  Like you, I have never seen that before late August even in the driest summers, and not with such vivid color in those cases.

One of the better downpours of the season here with some decent thunder. Even getting some training action with a third cell moving in.  0.75” so far.

Less than an inch of rain for May here.   Just over 8” total  for the first 5 months of 2023

30° yesterday morning.  85° this afternoon.  Gotta love Spring.

This blocked the road to my house today.  Completely uprooted.

It would be pretty rare to have a lower monthly mean temperature in March than February.  Since 1900 at DCA it happened in 2018, 1960 and 1932; with 1915 having the same mean temp both months.

BWI pulled it off in 2017 and 2018, but before that you also have to go back to 1960.

22” at 10:1 in the mountains of northern GA ?  Seems realistic.

They closed our schools by 9:00 p.m. last night.  I realize they probably have unused snow days, but they could have used today to make up for weeks of lost classroom time when Russian hackers shut down the county’s computers last month.

I knew I was never going to be rich. Didn’t take a path in life that would make $$$. All I wanted tho was to provide. Make enough to have a home, family and be able to do fun things occasionally. There were going to be tough times and that happened. But thru it all I kept going with the hope it would work out. 
 

my goal was to retire at 50. Thank whomever one can pray to that I was able to get thru 30 years of work to make it. All I wanted was to be able to get out at an age where I can do things with my kids. That’s what I’m trying to do now. The mileage I put on myself from work is taking a toll tho. Shit hurts now and I hope I didn’t wear things out too soon to be able to enjoy it all. 
 

But thankfully I can now do things and be there for my kids. I’m not money rich but spirit rich. I have wonderful friends that also help me see the joy in life. And while I still have my health I’m gonna try to make others happy and do the things that some never get to. One doesn’t need wealth to be wealthy.

Great post Bob.  Happy for you that you’ve found that spread of dirt to develop a dream with. 

I started a business when I was 30.  Made and lost fortunes.  Had some great times, but never got too caught up in the successes.  Once ego gets involved, the downturns that will surely come can consume you.

Turning 60 in a few weeks.  Fortunate to be in good health and a part of my kids’ lives.  The rest of it is just rolling downstream as you said.  I’m content letting others run in that rat race.  Ain’t jealous of them at all.

That’s a great looking depiction.  And the best part is the time stamp.   Under 240 hours for once this winter.

Just last year, I measured a couple of inches on April 18, when 2-6” fell across the eastern panhandle of WV and western MD.

Since moving to WV in 2006, I’ve received:  

15” on March 21, 2018

9.4” on March 19-20, 2015

4.1” on March 25, 2013

6.0 on March 17, 2007

Ended up with a car topper here.  A decent dusting in grassy areas too.

Beautiful scene in the eastern panhandle this morning.  Dense, freezing fog has coated everything in a thick layer of ice.

The Weather Bureau obs shifted first to Bolling Field in Anacostia in 1929.  Then to Washington-Hoover Airport (near where the Pentagon is now) in 1931.  And then to Washington National Airport in 1941. 

Getting some very light snow this morning.  32°..  

You guys are funny.  You know how it’s gonna go.  Cold and blustery and damp in March.  Everyone will be crying when it’s in the 50’s most of April.  “Where’s our string of 75 degrees days with sunshine ?”

May will start out wet for the first few weeks and then we’ll transition straight into hazy hot and humid summer weather.

It’s rare to have the Spring weather everyone wants.
