  1. Yup. I just let me middle schooler know that I'll be picking up since they walk, but you are right, this is bad timing for FCPS
  2. This is what I want to see for the next 3 months. Lock it in
  3. Truly stunning sunrise over North Bethesda this morning. Soak in the beauty [emoji2956] .
  4. Good summary of the distribution with this storm. I was seeing reports of a few inches of snow just a few miles away from where it was still raining yesterday. The micro-scale of this storm was fun to watch
  5. North side of Frederick got zilch until this morning. Now at least my grass is 80% covered so it looks nice. Probably going with 0.2" of snow in my CoCoRaHS today
  6. 10:1 has me at 11" and kuchera at 21". What a fun hobby/profession we all have
  7. Seems to be doing a great job resolving the topography here. Especially the catoctin ridge running up between Frederick and Washington counties
  8. My own brother in law texted me this morning to say "Why do none of you meteorologist have any clue how much snow is coming? I'm seeing 4 inches and I'm seeing 20+" I think he is only half joking, but that's certainly how the general public digests the information out there right now.
  9. Not sure how many of you are CoCoRaHS reporters, but I thought this post was helpful on their main page. Especially since the reporting time is going to be during our most pukiest snow period. Winter Alert! Here are the basics for reporting your "Gauge Catch" when it snows: Remove the funnel and center tube and place them by your kitchen sink, and leave the large cylinder mounted outside to receive any and all precipitation that falls. When it is time to measure - bring the snow-filled gauge inside and let it melt. *Watch this short, animated video for how to do it quickly by adding pre-measured warm water using your inner tube* Once melted you can carefully pour the water into the inner tube using the funnel - making sure to subtract any amount of warm water that was added. Enter this amount in same place on the data entry form where you enter your rainfall amount - called "Gauge Catch". If you experience freezing rain (click here to read about the differences between frozen precipitation types and freezing rain), still follow the procedure above, but also report the thickness of the ice in your comments. Make sure to only melt and measure the ice that freezes on the inside of the gauge. Optional reporting of freezing rain can be found in the left-hand menu of your data entry page or click here to access more information including a link to enter an ice accretion impact report. Here, the training guide goes over how to report the thickness of the ice, but if you only have impacts to report, and photos, you can use the links or QR code to submit a report from your smartphone.
  10. Reminds me of the old Jeb walk posts from years ago. Sounds like an awesome plan!
  11. My wife is in education. The only people in the world who are as obsessed with weather as meteorologists are teachers lol
  12. Exactly. People at work are quoting it and then I feel like a dick when I try to correct them based on actual forecasts and projections
