GBOVolz Posted yesterday at 12:55 PM Share Posted yesterday at 12:55 PM I've gotten about 1.5 inches overnight with a temp of 20. Schools are closed here.Your elevation is just a little short of 2000 correct? I was having a conversation with some of the guys on Mike Witchers private weatherboard and I was telling them about your location and how much better you do than 90% of East Tennessee outside the mountains. We have several people on Mike’s board who are close to the Tn boarder, east of 75 to Bristol in areas that you don’t hear about very often just because they’re so rural. That area close to the Tennessee State line east of 75 is in a completely different climate than the majority of East Tennessee outside the mountains. They send in a lot of pictures from their communities when it snows and when Knoxville gets flurries, it’s just about guaranteed those areas that I was talking about are going to get an inch or so. This one guy lives in Church Hill area and I’m not sure they have had school up there one full week since it got cold in January. .

Daniel Boone Posted yesterday at 01:51 PM Share Posted yesterday at 01:51 PM Measurements varied 2 to 3". Some shady Area's had 3. Ground was warm so makes sense. Also some melting underneath was noted early last night even with ambient Temperature in low 20's. Got down to 18 this Morning.

Jed33 Posted yesterday at 02:44 PM Share Posted yesterday at 02:44 PM Ended up with about 1/3in in grass and wood surfaces but the roads also caved a little this morning. Several school districts are out today. It’s still snowing pretty well in town right now as I type this.

Ground Temp's are still giving.off heat. Some melting from Solar as well .

Elevation, even a few hundred feet, makes a difference here. There's 2.5 inches at my relative's house at 2500 feet. It's been snowing decently this afternoon at times. We had some fluffy quarters falling a few minutes ago. Temp has gotten to to 25.
John1122
Snow is actually picking up here as it often does when dark approaches during NW flow. Peaked at 25 on a 32 degree forecast. Down to 23.8 as the sun goes behind the big ridge to my west. It's not sunny at all, but it still gives energy through the clouds this time of year as Daniel Boone noted. I did retain snow-cover today though.
John1122
Areas of good snow showers as I headed to Halls for the basketball tournament. The salt trucks were out at Caryville. It's partly sunny at Halls high. Snow flakes ended around Raccoon Valley.
Daniel Boone
Reached 25 for the high. Forecast was for 30. Currently 22 with lt Snow. A fresh Dusting since Solar Effects left. Have an Inch still on Ground in the open Lawn Area. About 2 inches in some shaded Area's. Had all the Snow that has fallen accumulated the Total would have been around 4 inches. Model's overall did poorly with this here as John alluded to earlier. I think the Canadian Suite were the winners here. John probably has kept up with it more than me. HRRR I think was terrible. Nam was bad as well. As far as Medium Range Models and the System as a whole, I'd say the GFS won hands down particularly picking up on the Storm at range.
Jed33
Really none of the models did well at all with the snow here last night and today. The rgem, NAM, hrrr, globals, etc. this time they were horrible. Reading the comments from the NY forum, they were disappointed in the RGEM. It did pretty bad there too. It’s still a good model, but even good models have their weaknesses I guess. This storm was one of them.
John1122
Just got in from the basketball tournament. Light snow is still falling here. It's been snowing for something like 36 hours straight now, even if it hasn't amounted to a ton.
1234snow
It is coming down pretty solidly at the moment. Have a good dusting on everything now. Only 40 more inches to match Rhode Island. 1 4

The East high girls defeated Science Hill at East for the district championship, yay Lady Canes! Walked outside, and yep, it’s snowing again here too and trying to lay down another dusting.

I liked the picture of the 1980 "Miracle on Ice" with "GFS" photoshopped over "USA" on the jerseys of the celebrating American players. That's what that storm seemed like to me, GFS got its once a decade upset over the Euro haha And yeah we also had on and off snow flurries for almost 24 hours, which is kind of crazy. Obviously no accumulation besides a trace on some of the roofs, but it was a nice surprise
Carvers Gap
Nice way to cap the season here. We had light snow falling for almost 24 hours. The snow didn't accumulate much as John noted. Last evening about 8:30, it did pick up and coat everything w/ 0.25-0.4" of powder. Schools were on delay or closed today in much of NE TN. I suspect we get 1-2 more cold shots, but for now....the rain/snow line looks like it is over the Ohio River Valley. But this is the time of year where wx models can change wildly at times. Anything is possible.
Carvers Gap
I thought wx models did well at range w/ yesterday's NW flow potential. They kind of hiccuped within 72 hours, but eventually reality would match those prolonged upslope runs from a week ago.
Carvers Gap
I had been hearing about some of the heavy snows to hit Japan during the past few days. Here is a YouTube video of some of that snow. It was just posted two days, so I assume it is recent. Pretty amazing amounts.
