mattie g
After going to Wisp last week, my wife was like "That's it! We need to buy a house out here." Darling...that sounds like a wonderful idea, but 2

mdhokie
Unless you got $$$$ stay away from the resort areas. There are deals to be had outside the lake/ski area. $275k, close to the state parks: 511 New Germany Rd, Swanton, MD 21561 | MLS# MDGA2006110 | Redfin $360k, quieter park of the county:221 Church St, Oakland, MD 21550 | MLS# MDGA2005592 | Redfin Rental potential on these would be low, so it depends on what your goals are. This one in Caanan has access to a runway! Fly your private plane right to your house! $389k: 19 Beechcraft Way, Davis, WV 26260 | realtor.com® 1

Ok, maybe not the one with the runway in my backyard. lol
gunny23
We chose Canaan because we love everything about the Valley. Dolly Sods, hiking, fishing...it's got everything. And the new ownership at Timberline is fantastic. We will move there permanently in a few years. The downside is if you need a special tool, part etc you're an hour to either Oakland, MD or Elkins. Sucks when you are doing a project and have to drive an hour for a carriage bolt (don't ask me how I know) It's also a very small town, everyone will know your name. If you are looking for something small, Black Bear resort often has 1 or w 2 BRs that are somewhat reasonable by today's standards.

Now maybe I can sell a snowy getaway to my wife on short notice if we have a storm on the way…
WVsnowlover
Canaan Valley area would definitely be my choice. Something to consider are home prices and taxes being much lower compared to Deep Creek.
