To the best of my recollection, I never recall a "smokey season" until about 2017. The only other instance of smoke I can recall was early July 2002, which was generally all aloft. It was rare enough of an event that all of the local meteorologists and Weather Channel were making a big deal out of it, which is how I remember the general date.

I mean it used to be hazy and smoggy frequently in July and August up to about 2009. That has been greatly reduced. But wildfire smoke - can't say I remember that.

Well they have occurred throughout the years.  Wild fires are a yearly occurrence and not anything new or recent.  Not every year do the winds/patterns bring them to everyone's backyards.  Location of the fires in Canada this year with the weather pattern made this one especially long / bad for the GL & NE.

Had no idea there was smoke in the region today. Considering myself lucky the sky looks like this  here.

That's what it was like here yesterday.  Solid Blue   Sadly today was a bit milkier around here.

That sugar maple looks a little young to be crapping out already.

Deep blue skies here as well, with some towers going up.  A few isolated downpours have popped up in the heat of the day.

Looks like it had some damage years ago and hasn't recovered well.

Toxic effects of road salt can happen with roadside trees. Sapstreak is a fungal disease they can get also. Or even a carpenter ant infection. Had to call in a 100ft red oak that near the crown was split down the middle. Could see it open and close a bit with the breeze. Massive branch fell this past weekend

No idea the reason for the damage or how long it’s been present. This is probably 10 blocks from my house. 3 consecutive summers of drought probably haven’t helped much.
