Hot town Summer in the city?

SACRUS

Recommended Posts

Figured i'd add the discussion in a new thread as to not take away from the march torch discussion thread.

Will this year feature the third consecutive hot summer/ above avg temps, 90 + temps etc?

Most of the years and seasons I am looking at come in pairs i dont see 3 back to back to back hot summers (not just above normal, but mulitple heat waves and much above avg).

Unc, don others - do you have any records of 3 summers in a row with high heat for the big apple. Closest or only trifecta I find is 93, 94, 95.

I can only pray against a 2009 repeat; absolutely depressing Spring and Summer, save 2 week period in July where there was dry, Northwest wind blowing in an otherwise wet, humid, cloudy summer.

I hope to God that this summer is not a scorcher like the last two were, 2009 would make me happy.

I loved that summer, and I will welcome it as a change of pace from this month after month of well above normal temperatures.

IF we keep going at this pace, perhaps a change would be welcome. 2010 was hot but humidity never became an issue. Last year was ratty hot, with 3rd week of July an inferno, but hard to convince me the summer season should be rainy. What's going on this "winter" is just beguiling, though, and 60s and 70s in abundance in March is just nuts, and I'd think it's gotta balance it out sooner or later.

I missed the heat of last July because I was in Ireland enjoying the upper 50's and lower 60's during their coolest summer on record.

Ok, THAT I'd take...IN Ireland. Had to be perfect. Can't exactly picture the quaint villages, green fields and cobblestone roads WITHOUT cool and rainy conditions.

It was great, hearing from back home(in LI) where it was 100 degrees while I was sitting pretty in cool weather made me feel great.LOL

It is a beautiful country. This was my 5th time there, and I will be heading back in July for my cousins wedding.

I'd love to visit there but I wouldn't want to live there. Weather's very boring, pretty much stays within the 40-60 degree range year-round.

I like cool wx during the spring, but summer 2009 would be about the worst outcome in my eyes. Absolutely freezing getting out of the ocean and pool wih few hot days. Those that are way inland and don't have access to beach/pool/ocean probably prefer the cooler summers moreso.

i have no A/C in my house, so I will take whatever I can get.

No AC? I dont mind the heat at all in the summer as long as I can get to the AC when I'm done outside.

I used to have it in my bedroom, but I installed it wrong in the window and it would up falling out, this was a few years ago (2008 i think), but the last two summers were HELL, 2009 was great though.

Window units for as cheap as a 100 bucks. If you're willing to suffer through 3 months of heat, humidity and sweating all night long to save 100 bucks, you've got to be more cheap than Mr. Krabs.

When you are spending most of your paycheck on gas, they are not all that cheap, and I am also saving up far a car that gets more than 12-14MPG

Summer 2010 had some rough nights, as I didn't have A/C either and I lived in a two-story apt. Some nights we were in the low 90s at like 2 or 3 in the morning.

I can't think of a worse environment to be in. That is a significant quality of life violation for me.

It pushed me to the edge and I can deal with heat very well. Lesson learned: never live in an apt with non-standard windows unless it has HVAC already installed.

Seriously. I mean I can't stand it when my house starts to approach 80 inside. I need it to be below like 76 so I can be comfortable. Even lower if it's humid. Your tolerance is impressive.

I'm good till about 80 then it starts to become uncomfortable. Above 90 in my room I really can't sleep. I had like three fans blowing on me that summer but it was a pretty futile effort. If this torch continues into JJA there is no doubt I'm getting A/C (I have normal windows where I live now).

I can relate to that, we had about a 4 day stretch of nights that stayed between 89-93. I have a high heat tolerance but it felt disgusting.

I guess it's odd that I want another hot summer.
