Jeff is the man then because he had everyone else beat this morning. Nice forecast by him!

Did he go on the air with that in the morning? If he did, that's a great.....and ballsy....call.

That's why I'd love to have more of our mets post. I would imagine in a situation like this, they would say that it could be a lot more, but confidence is too low to take in on the air.

I think his on air call I saw from his webcast this mornign called for 3-5 for stuebenville...but he called me from the station and said that for south hills, etc...looked impressive and wouldnt be surprised if we got 6-8"..... I asked him about why local mets always downplay **** and he said that no one really want to bust high OR low but prefer to bust low if there's gonna be a bad bust....

I was reading some knuckleheads post on the KDKA site after the last ice storm was an under performer. Of course they were all convinced the media just "hypes" up everything. They were actually mad. If they only see what we see sometimes....lol.

But I realized that the public gets angry when a met busts high because they think it's just the media trying to get ratings. When a storm over-performs, they just blame it on crazy weather.

It's kind of the opposite of us.....if a met busts low, they catch hell from us. If they give a ballsy call and bust high, then we blame the weather for "screwing us", but love them.

At the end of the day, we are only 1% of the population.....if that...and so that is why it's better to bust low in the court of public opinion. That being said, leaving people unprepared just because your confidence level isn't tremendous isn't a great idea. I think mets should go on the air and educate about possiblities, while of course making an official call as to the most likely.

I thought this was high bust potential if the forecast would have been 6 to 10" from the jump. So I get it.....but I also would have liked to see forecasts jump to that when it became obvious around 6 PM that we were going in that direction

I have not read all the post. The last time I checked in we were on page 9 lol. I did want to report I got 5.5 inches out of this storm. It was pretty much a suprise to me. I am usually on top of this stuff but I have been very busy with school. I hope to read all your post at some point. The roads here in Neshannock Township have been plowed and salted. I was out for most of the storm and was enjoying a rare evening out with the husband and friends. I enjoyed watching the snow while visiting my friends that live on the Neshannock river. It was beautiful to watch from the inside. Got home safely and hit the hot tub. It is also great to watch the snow and feel it while enjoying the tub.

D Ivory had a 13.5" report on the screen from somewhere in south hills or Wash county area.

He also said there was a report of 20" (I didn't catch where), but by his tone he didn't buy it. He was like "sometimes these totals vary a lot, but I don't know".

Definitely not buying the 20".....but I can see someone having cracked a foot south where a combination of heavy precip and no mixing occurred.

Maybe our old buddy northpitt sent in that 20" report! :D I measured 8 inches before I left for work this morning. I kind of wish I left later because some of the roads I had to take this morning were still really bad. Some were also just wet so it's pretty deceiving out there right now. I was on 88 and it was mostly wet. Later I was on Lebanon Church and people were getting stuck and having problems on that road. One guy going up Curry Hollow decided in the middle of the road that he couldn't make it up the hill so he actually backed down the hill toward all of us that were going up the hill behind him. I saw some other people getting stuck on some on and off ramps too. People getting out of their cars trying to push them through. Interesting morning to say the least.

Congrats to you all to the north (which I think is everyone haha). The forecast actually busted down here. I don't think it ever turned over to exclusively snow as I heard ice mixing in for the duration. The snow we did get was not the kind seen to the north; it was smaller and lighter flakes. We ended up with about 1.5" of a mixed bag, under the 3-6" call. I think the precip just moved too fast, so by the time the snow line dropped south, all the precip was gone.

Without any sort of dominating cold-air presence, at this point in the winter, the conditions down here won't favor snow. Unless the cold air comes in first and the snow comes up from the south (overrunning).

Ended with probably about 7.5 inches...commute this morning wasn't bad, however, more abandoned cars than I have ever seen. Honestly, I blame that on the NWS and locals...there was no reason that there could not have been a WWA issued at 4 AM yesterday morning for snow. 2-4 at that time was more than reasonable, and if you put up that 2-4 and say it might start snowing around 5 or 6, people might leave early and so forth.

I did have to laugh at the guy from Penndot on my way home last night around 6 saying mains were wet. At the Bellevue West View exit of 279 people could not make over the bridge and had to come back down the wrong side....the interstates weren't any better. However, there really was very little Penndot could have done with rates what they were.

Good morning.......

That definately came in earlier than expected huh? Glad the temps stayed down and WPA had it this time!

Just measured 7" IMBY here in Armstrong County.

Who is it that lives in New Ken on here? Trying to figure out if I should venture down to work......

Roads in NK seem pretty decent. At least the main roads are. Tarentum bridge road is clear for all 4 lanes etc.
