  1. EURO says no (and it's not particularly close) but it took a nice NW jog compared to 18z and 12z. Trend is our friend. 00z: 18z: 12z:
  2. If there is one model trend we can count on, it’s the GFS bumping northward/northwestward in the last 72 hours of a storm. It happens every single time.
  3. Sig updated! 6" in CHO and 6.6" in Arlington. Feel good about my contest numbers. This is gonna be my year.
  4. I can't find the tweet I saw so take this with a large grain of salt but I'm pretty sure the Para had pretty solid verification scores for this past storm.
  5. Cant resist throwing in my two cents: I started posting here when I was 12, I think. Could’ve been 13. Regardless, I’m sure I looked stupid. I distinctly remember talking with Ian, which I thought was so cool since I recognized the name from CWG, but I doubt those conversations actually went well. Since he’s rarely here anymore, you guys can blame me for him mostly leaving, lol. Regardless, I’d like to think that over the past seven or eight years, I’ve become a better poster. I’m still not a meteorologist. I honestly probably couldn’t tell you WSW criteria off the top of my head for LWX, especially with (I think) it being different in different zones - but I’ll guess 5” in 24 hours. This forum has made me a much better weather enthusiast. I get to sometimes write things for the Capital Weather Gang because you all made me a better/more knowledgeable poster. You guys fueled my interest in weather and made me want to become better. It would suck to scare someone off because they are too young or don’t have good grammar. Most of you are probably lucky this forum wasn’t around when you were in your early teens and wanted to meet likeminded folks.
  6. Family says new snow of 1.25” overnight. Puts the overall total in Arlington close to 5”.
  7. Woah, this is crazy good. I’d genuinely be interested in a print if that was something you did. Feel free to message me.
  8. The band somehow made it down here. Real light snow in CHO.
  9. Got a second monitor today "for school." I'm supposed to use it for things like email or writing. In reality, I can now permanently have a radar up without having to switch tabs.
  10. Couple flurries in Charlottesville. Doubt any of the activity up north makes it here, but fingers crossed.
  11. EURO has a Day 9-10 storm as well. Could be in for quite a stretch.
  12. On an actual obs related front: some light accretion on the trees and my car is encased in a layer of ice. It's been misting all afternoon despite the lack of returns and just slowly getting iced up.
  13. What a great freakin' day. Walked 11 miles. Probably the most exercise I've had since the pandemic started. Just beautiful stuff out here. Snowball fight with friends. Snowmen everywhere on Grounds. This wasn't the biblical event that was dreamed of but I was out in the snow for 10 hours and I'm happy as a clam. Good luck to all of you on the backside. We all deserve a snow day.
  14. Been drizzling in Charlottesville despite what the radar shows. Don’t think it’s making things any more slick.
  15. Drizzling in CHO. Below freezing so we’ll see if we ice up.
  16. Definitely possible! My housing is near Fry's Spring, so I went from there to Scott Stadium, the Rotunda, then took the long way back and went up to McCormick Observatory and walked down the trails to Fontaine. It's more than possible my 5.5" is an overestimate - my ruler is not ideal. We'll see what reports end up looking like.
  17. Seems to have mostly shut off in Charlottesville. Measured 5.5" in my front yard, relatively confident we got a bit more than that, but I'll check with other obs before changing my report. Great storm. 5 mile jebwalk. No anxiety about the CCB. All worked out.
