Already has, in fact. The intensification of the storm into a Cat 1 today from a TD yesterday more than qualifies as RI. Question is really how many times this storm pulls it off.
Convinced a friend at Tulane to get out of dodge sooner rather than later. With the storm rapidly intensifying already, not much in its way to stop it from getting close to or maximizing its potential.
nailed it. vacationing just around there - house is easily within walking distance. Pretty crazy to think that house (likely) was at some point prime beachfront property. Was probably always too close to the shore (as is the still occupied one near it on about 20ft of stilts), but pretty neat regardless.
I say kicked off loosely - thunder was fairly audible and I checked radar and pulled the plug for our family - seemed like the anvil was expanding overhead so seemed safest. Maybe the guards would have kicked us off shortly, though.
Bummed to be missing a fun weather week - pretty nice down here in Nags Head, but got kicked off the beach by distant thunder, as has been the theme all summer.
Yep, ruined my scheduled swim lessons today. Lose about $50 every hour the pool is closed… grr. This is crazy though, caught a bolt seemingly 20+ miles out from the parent thunderstorm. Guess that’s why we have to close up shop. CWG says it might’ve been an error, though.
This subforum being so great is (legitimately) one of the reasons I want to live in this area post-grad. One of a litany of reasons, but I love having a great group to talk weather with. Tough to find that elsewhere, it seems, though every subforum surely has its good posters.
lol, SVR warned. of course. Guess things might be loosened up by yesterday, so a proactive call, even if there is no way in hell we verify this looking at radar.
GRLevel3 - fun desktop radar program. Can watch 4 different radars at once, which is kinda neat.
Anyways, DC split looks real, though might be a couple thundershowers coming out from under the radar beam. Wouldn't mind a break today, anyway.
Honestly, it worked a lot better than the LTE in the neighborhood. Have always had pretty poor service here but it was unusable earlier. Some combination of everyone using it at once/maybe being closer to a 3G tower.
