Out this morning in a t-shirt clearing potential ice dams around the house. Feels wonderful out lol. Currently at 4.7° here in EH. Thank God we had snow otg at least.
-
Low of -4.3°. I absolutely love it.

Had a low of 1.2 and high of 18.7° here in East Hartford. Pretty sure the coldest day since Feb 2023.

It’s unreal.

That’s why this is the worst winter of them all.

Euro has a very cold night here, while the GFS is almost 20° warmer. Euro nailed last night. I got down to 1.2°. So close to zero though it looks like HFD did.

Yeah—one is much better than the other, and I’m the tropical guy Wish we could get that here.

It’s New Orleans. It’s ok to have fun.

I will say it’s deep winter out here and it’s beautiful. This was the river here between Hartford/East Hartford. Currently 5.9°/1 here in EH.

Was over last week. We appreciate a modest event and the cold this week but it doesn’t change anything in the whole scheme of things.

I don’t think that’s unreasonable at all. A more splotchy radar depiction like Dr. No and more of the board will be reclaiming their time like I have this past week. Seriously though, until there’s a meaningful move by the Euro toward a better put together system it’s a significant red flag at this stage. A compromise is a win, and a GFS like result is a triumph. A Euro win is more of the same but would add legitimate deep winter of yore feel to the week as the Arctic hounds are unleashed (which I know few care about but I do).

It was the cold that got me. Thought we had a chance when December wasn’t +435°. Then we had epic pretty colors at 500 in January and some legitimate storms that all found ways to miss. I was cautiously optimistic, not APATT, but the result was all the same.

When there’s a continual cold feed it makes the lack of snow all the more egregious. At least if it’s a blowtorch you know you have no shot. My shoe size may be a bit bigger, but we’re wearing the same brand brother.

Story time with cousin Donnie. I’ve had the misfortune of canceling winter exceedingly few times in my life. The first was January 2015. Living in DC and watching you all cash in on consecutive weekends while we missed out tore my winter weenie soul from my body. I knew then that my differences with winter were irreconcilable, and I divorced myself from having any faith in it. It worked. I started The Panic Room and glorious years of soulless winter observation occurred. I came back home in 2018—just in time for this historic stretch of horrific winter wx and held to my arm’s length treatment of winter tracking. But over time, the lies winter whispered in my ear became more sophisticated. The pattern looked extraordinary. The Atlantic would save us. The Pacific would save us. Our latitude would. It was always ten days away and never to be, but the lies in animations were so appealing I began to have hope again. Until December 2022. The epic pattern that folks tracked for nearly a month led to an all time event in Buffalo, and rain here. I knew then it was time to pull the plug, and I did. This time it was the cold that seduced me. If we just had cold in place, I was told, eventually something would happen. There was snow on Christmas Eve. Ponds and rivers freezing. Hope in the air. It breathed life into my winter weenie soul once again, only to have the inevitable happen. Another disastrous winter. In order to know the true depth of despair, one must first have hope. I made that mistake believing in winter 2024-25. Never again. Rather than crap up threads, I’m just going to go away.
