  1. Took a few measurements in my yard last night before coming in, and came up with 21". That seemed to make sense to me, as there were other folks in Bristol and Warren reporting the same after I checked on the NWS site. However, checked the NWS site today and they had removed all the high numbers from Bristol, went with 18" report instead. Seems an inch or two low to me, but in the end it's not a big deal. Swansea, Fall River, and Tiverton were all in the 20's are right nearby and were also in that death band just as long as me. Also had a chance to take a little drive around town - no photos unfortunately. Some awesome scenes down at Colt Sate Park. Lots of fields and open spaces near the water were bare ground, and then suddenly, you would get into spots with 4-6 foot drifts where all that blowing snow had a chance to settle. Cool stuff. Plus my son finally had a big storm to have some fun sledding and attempting to build snow forts and piles with this rather fluffy stuff. A great storm overall, even if it wasn't historic as we wanted it to be.
  2. Congrats! I had a good feeling about this one for you, though no clue it would be a record breaker. This arctic air mass made the difference.
  3. Not often that my neighborhood leads the state in snow, but after clearing the driveway, I believe it. Definitely in the 20-24” range here.
  4. It wasn’t terrible in Cumberland. They were in the death band for a little while and my friend says there’s 12-16” on the ground. Lots of drifting there too.
  5. I see the City of Newport is doing a great job plowing lol!
  6. Moderate snow here now. The edge of that band is weakening down here. Can't complain we were in the middle of it for 4 hours...
  7. Yeah looks like we have another six hours before it's done. Insane...
  8. I have a Carthart coat that is used specifically for this type of weather. But I guess I can't wear it anymore due to its new status as a political statement lol. Anyway that coat always gets the job done, especially in the slop we usually get here in winter storms.
  9. Just had to get myself to the car and had to shovel through some 3 foot drifts. This stuff is extra fluffy here. Must be high ratio stuff. Still coming down heavy. I don't think I've ever seen a band sit over RI like that...
  10. LOL don't you own a real winter coat? I love LL Bean but even I didn't go out in just flannel!
  11. Route 24 must be a total mess its been under a band for at least 5 hours...
  12. Puking snow near white out here at the moment. Heaviest so far.
  13. If Corey staying in LA got the death band into RI, then taking a nap might get it done for you.
  14. To say the alignment of this band over eastern RI is rare would be an understatement…
  15. Because BOX was confusing me with two different maps with the same time stamp.
  16. I was confused too. They have two different maps up right now. One with the correct colors and numbers, one with what looks to be outdated info but the correct time stamp and numbers out of whack.
  17. Damn that BOX map is bullish for eastern areas and quite surprising.
  18. Latest HRRR still has a stall for 3-4 hours east of the Cape and another .75 to 1.00" of QPF RI east. Sucks for the CNE/WNE folks...
  19. Was out for about 45 minutes shoveling out a spot for the dog. Lots of drifts, gonna conservatively say 8-10" out there now. Had drifts over 2 feet in some spots, always tough to measure my yard I'm very exposed to the wind in 3 directions. 8-10 (maybe 12) seems to be in line with peeps to my east and west in the 14-16 range... very good rates out there now, though not white out. Damn cold too!
  20. Ha we will see. Usually the bands are more transient here. We usually get the good stuff at the end more often than not. Surprising to see a juicy band move in from the east this early.
  21. Ooh band of yellow incoming… that rarely happens here…
  22. Thankfully most of that RI snow hole is over Narragansett Bay. Snowing pretty good here though we’re on the edge of the eastern band… EDIT: refreshed my RadarScope and it shifted west over land… poor Kent/South county.
  23. BOX 6:45 NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/... 645 AM update... Very impressive satellite imagery this morning, with half wavelength shortening between trough and downstream ridge, as trough begins to take on a negative tilt. Forecast remains on track, with moderate snow overspreading eastern CT-RI and eastern MA, with snowfall rates approaching 1 inch per hour. Winds have really cranked upward the past hour, with PVC G50 kt/58 mph the past hour! Still expecting the heaviest snow with hourly rates of 2-4" per hour at times along with strongest winds up to 65-75 mph between 9 am and 4 pm. Rain has flipped over to all snow now across Nantucket and the outer Cape. Although this will be a heavy wet snow, including coastal Plymouth county and increase the threat of tree damage and power outages. Earlier discussion below.
