  1. I guess this is off topic. Anyone else dealing with fog in the Chicago area, or is this just smoke and pollution in northwest Indiana from the refinery burning off excess product from the power outage? It’s thick and can see ‘clouds’ of it blowing by out the window.
  2. I know there are a lot of opinions on this event, but gotta feel bad for those that were excited for it. At best they may get a few hours of driving in. All the fanfare, etc have pretty much been canceled with this mesolow sitting and dumping on the city.
  3. Guess I was wrong about the roads. They are a slushy mess already.
  4. Really impressive with unrelenting big flakes and 37F temperature. It’s trying really hard to stick to grassy areas. Even if this turns into several inches I dont see the roads becoming much of an issue with the temps.
  5. The roads are no joke already. Grass is still visible but the pavement is whitening, and as someone pointed out already there is a glaze of ice underneath. Will be a rough afternoon for anyone traveling, which has been the clear messaging from the NWS.
  6. Funny to see the local news alerts backtrack on yesterdays forecast totals. ABC7 Alert: Significant changes to our winter storm forecast! Tune in at 10pm. Had family trying to reschedule Friday holiday plans after yesterdays headlines. And I’m talking about a 2 mile trip across town. Imagine by then it will be very cold but manageable conditions.
  7. Pretty wicked winds out of this storm. Lots of flickering power.
  8. Top shelf evening - and on a weekend to boot. Drove home with all the windows down and the music up.
  9. Anyone notice this big yellow ball of fire in the sky today? What’s up with that? It hurts my eyes.
  10. It was glorious and my mood immediately flipped, and then back to the gray stuff with spitting rain no less.
  11. Just here to gripe as well. This pattern has finally gotten to me. The cloudiness is relenting and depressing. Also we can’t even get filtered sun, or breaks in the clouds. It’s just a thick never ending blanket of gray.
  12. Quality squall. Surprised the thunderstorm warning wasn’t extended into Indiana. Edit: looks like warning just extended east. Already sunny here, so a bit late.
  13. Just shoveled driveway. I’d say 3-4” in extreme NW IN and snowing good now.
  14. Wow this is some pasty stuff. The trees are beautiful. Will be a nice backdrop to the ongoing event. Now, about that wind some were mentioning for tomorrow…
  15. I’m sitting at a Blackhawks game spending most for my attention on this thread and showing my wife the memes. Best entertainment of the week.
  16. Thanks for everyone's insights - it's been fun following as a lurker. Question on plumes, and maybe it's user error - the averages in and around Chicago are at ~12". Looking down in central IL/IN where more snow is modeled their averages are the same or less. (ie IKK is about the same as ORD). Is it still too far out to see the full storm totals, or reason for such a large spread still in east-central IL.
  17. Following the big stuff down south. Was not expecting to hear tornado sirens going off here in far NW IN. Shows how far reaching this is.
  18. I was keeping an eye on that one thinking it would go warned and never did. Even had a screenshot trying to figure distance.
  19. Based on those street names - hope the beloved Meyers Castle is safe….
  20. Do remember lots of sirens, but can’t recall if two warnings. A bit hazy on memories last year and days of sitting around at home.
  21. Two alerts for a tornado warning in one day. That’s a personal best for me.
  22. Neighborhood just lost power. Right next to decently large hospital (Community).
  23. This couldn’t be more off topic - but wasn’t sure where else to put this. I’m a frequent lurker and visit 100% on mobile. In the last week or so I’ve started getting incredibly intrusive ads that add a border around the page and make it nearly unusable. Eventually I can X out, but the ad will keep popping up. Anyone else have this issue? Can mods adjust this?
  24. I believe one has died and another is still hospitalized. I don’t know the exact figure, but my understanding is that if you narrow it down to just the impacted group (women 18-48), the prevalence is of course much higher although still very rare. Sucks all around though.
  25. As a fellow non-model watcher who relies on screenshots from others here - thanks for speaking up!
