    Wow, that is just absurd! Creative and interesting but just ridiculous.

    I like pond ice and a grinch storm can really F that up no matter how cold it was before or how cold it gets after. Nothing worse than a layer of punk, honeycomb ice to erode your safety confidence.

    Most winter outdoor activity enthusiasts would probably prefer BN snowfall and BN temperatures as opposed to AN snowfall interspersed with a high DP grinch storm.

    Greenfield has a general 3 to 5 inches of full snow cover although open fields should be pretty bare by Christmas morning.

    My friend in Vermont said Killington and Okemo are OK but could really use a refresher. My friend in North Conway said they definitely need snow up there. The Alpine skiing is OK it’s the Nordic areas that are hurting pretty badly.

    According to my friends up north (NH and VT) there is already a lot of hand ringing about lack of snow at the ski areas.

    As a kid my dad would take us out as long as it was over 3" of black ice. We would also cut test holes every 50' or so.

    A friend of mine fished Cranberry Pond in Sunderland/Leverett and told me 4" of black ice. That's pretty solid. It's also been real cold here this week, today was first day above freezing and it's already back down in the mid-20's.

    Ice fishermen were out on Barton Cove on the CT River this morning!

    In Chelmsford visiting family and it’s 42F. It was only 26F when we left Greenfield at 11 AM.

    Hopefully we get something wintery to pop next week but pattern looks to have December whimper out and January limp in.

    I went out to North Adams for work today and I must say it is a special December when Greenfield has more snow otg than Florida Pass in Savoy.

    Updated totals to include the .5" Tuesdasy night and the .25" from the squalls yesterday. Total 25.75" for the season.

    I haven’t looked back to 2008 and 2009 but this might be best December in Greenfield since we moved here in 2007.

    Steady light snow here now. Weird, big chunky flakes that make a sound when they hit your coat.
