I like pond ice and a grinch storm can really F that up no matter how cold it was before or how cold it gets after. Nothing worse than a layer of punk, honeycomb ice to erode your safety confidence.
Most winter outdoor activity enthusiasts would probably prefer BN snowfall and BN temperatures as opposed to AN snowfall interspersed with a high DP grinch storm.
My friend in Vermont said Killington and Okemo are OK but could really use a refresher. My friend in North Conway said they definitely need snow up there. The Alpine skiing is OK it’s the Nordic areas that are hurting pretty badly.
A friend of mine fished Cranberry Pond in Sunderland/Leverett and told me 4" of black ice. That's pretty solid. It's also been real cold here this week, today was first day above freezing and it's already back down in the mid-20's.
