  1. The storm tracks during the fall of 19 were similar to the storm tracks for the fall of 18. Storms passing to the west and north. Climate change is impacting the winters in NE. And many of the winter forecasts did not even factor in the record warmth across the northern hemisphere during much of 2019. And many used analog years that are 40-60 years in the past when the climate was different. Eric Fisher wrote a great article on the past decade. It can be found on the WBZ website and on his twitter page.
  2. I watched Kent quite often. One of his biggest busts was for a major snowstorm in Dec 1973. On a Saturday, actually the Saturday before OJ broke the 2000 yard barrier, Kent was forecasting a major snowstorm. My memory is a bit vague but I think he was forecasting 1-2 feet of snow. Come Sunday things had changed. I recall Kent being very disappointed at the turn of events. He loved a really good snowstorm
  3. The internet has been a godsend to many hobbies. Back in the day I would always listen to WBZ radio with the hope that Elliot Abrams would be doing the forecast. He would take the time to explain the possibilities. And he had a great sense of humor. Now much of the detail/info can be found online. Back in the day it was a joy listening to and watching the mets who would go into detail about a storm and/or forecast.
  4. By then it will be 260 years for full benefits lol
  5. I enjoyed speaking with Walt when I called in my Skywarn reports. He loved to discuss the weather. And he was always open to answering a question or two. I hope one day he writes a book about his days at BOX. He has a lot of insights and theories on SNE weather.
  6. I understand. Walt is great guy and a terrific forecaster.
  7. That is 1 and a half years not 11 and half
  8. Walt has been retired for more than 11/2 years
  9. I recall a blizzard warning being mentioned for Christmas Eve 1980 but there was only a light dusting of snow.
  10. I agree but some can't avoid having a meltdown over something they have no control over. They need to spend time at a children's hospital during the holidays to gain perspective.
  11. Perhaps similar to Sean Landeta's punt in the 1985 playoffs?? lol
  12. The season of the meltdowns is at hand...…….lol
  13. Thankfully you have the support of the forum to get you through difficult times!
  14. Considering the pattern for much of the fall and early winter, would you bet on cold and snowy or a pattern that featured above normal temps??
  15. I think JB had -1 for SNE and above average snowfall for the winter. JB will vote democrat before he puts out a winter forecast calling for above normal temps with below average snowfall
  16. Eric Fisher‏Verified account @ericfisher 13h13 hours ago More It always seems to get mild leading up to Christmas in the U.S. It could be, perhaps, the trough is too tight It could be the polar vortex isn't screwed on just right Dec 21-24th during the 2000s shown
  17. Snow is becoming steadier in Methuen. School superintendents are going to have some explaining to do for cancelling school when it wasn't even snowing.
