  1. Wish I had some free time to go get some photos all through the "valley" there. I bet Catoctin looks just as good as well. Perfect postcard snow while still be relatively clear for travel.
  2. I really think the ground temps hurt a lot of us. I noticed there was a day last week when all the snow-crete melted away and I think right around then is when we finally lost that cold ground temps we had for Jan and early Feb. I think I looked at the MD Mesonet and ground temps were in the high 30's maybe touching 40. If we still had the really cold ground temps we probably would have done better with the marginal temps.
  3. Made the drive into the office from Hagerstown area to Frederick. Snow amounts definitely picked up around MD65 (the outlets) and increased as you got closer to South Mountain on I70. Surprised there wasn't more of a noticeable increase on South Mountain as it seemed like there was a band that was sitting over it all night, but it was gorgeous looking. Middletown / Myersville valley looks like it had a nice amount on the ground, maybe 6in at least, but hard to tell from the highway. Hit that remaining snow band there, coming down rather nicely still. Maybe that is the *REDACTED* that everyone has been excitedly speaking about. Braddock Heights had some good-looking amounts on the ground as well, but once you were down off there the snow totals fall back down relatively quickly for Frederick city, at least on the south side. Overall highways were fine, and the scenery is amazing.
  4. We've dropped to very very light snow now here, almost seems like drizzle. We'll see if we get it to pick back up again later.
  5. I'd much rather they get it than places like NC, or like last year, New Orleans and we get nothing. That hurts on a whole different level.
  6. I think you will do much better, but 18Z 3k Nam has me done by 7pm. HRRR has it going longer, but I've been burnt by that one before.
  7. I know, but the radar edge is getting really close now. It might start back building in. There is some more snow that just popped up pushing west near Chambersburg. We shall see.
  8. We did get a burst of very fat flakes that was coming down heavy, but it only lasted for about 15 mins or so, around 3:30PM or so. Still coming down pretty good, but not that heavy. It might have been that passing through.
  9. Well, unless we get some serious back building not much longer for us on the I-81 corridor. Best of luck for everyone else.
  10. Definitely looks like that 500 - 700ft alt difference you have over us in the valley is a big help. Congrats!
  11. I'm not sure this makes it better or worse for anyone still dealing with rain/snow. It's been snowing here near Hagerstown since at least 9:00 - 9:30, but not with much effect. Have some accumulation on grass and a little bit on the drive, but when the snow slacks off it quickly melts. Any real sticking has to wait till closer to darkness.
  12. While I'm not sure it is a phenomenon per say, one thing that jumps out to me happened a few years ago. I was flying back into BWI from Detroit, and it occurred during the decent into landing. Near Frederick you could see pretty good snow fall coming down out the window lit up in the plane's lights. However, once we were down lower and, on the ground, it was all coming down as rain due to the temps. It was so wild to me to see the warm layer melting the snow in person over a few minutes, okay more than just a "layer" in this instance.
  13. Debated if this is banter or obs, but it's wild to me that about 2 weeks after the storm you can still look at the Maryland Highway traffic cameras and see snow on the ground for most of the state. That does not happen very often here.
  14. Sleet mixing in here as well. Dang was hoping to hold on to at least noon. Still have snow mixing in though. Call it 7 inches before the changeover.
  15. I'm in between Martinsburg and Hagerstown, but closer to Hagerstown. Still all snow here. Right around 6" so far.
  16. Topped out between 15 - 16 degrees today, 3 under forecasted. Dew point still hanging around -4 to -5 degrees. Now back to 14.9 degrees.
  17. We do, but not usually this far ahead. Mitchnick's radar seems to have virga breaking out in the WV panhandle.
  18. You can see some snow coming down on the traffic cams. US 460 & US 52 in Southern WV. Traffic Cameras
  19. Balmy 14.9 degrees / dp of -3.5, a few miles southwest of Hagerstown. Was forecasted to hit a high of 19, not sure we are going to get there.
  20. Depends on where in Alaska you live. I was a kid/early teen in the Southeast panhandle and winters were not bad at all. It was cold, but not that bad. This stuff coming up is much worse that what we got on the coast.
  21. Sad thing is this would be our biggest snow of the season so far.
  22. Nice little snow squall hit us out the valley. Nothing really to show from it though, ground too warm and wet from yesterday. Pretty though.
