  1. It was only 1-2 inches deep on average where it landed directly, but flood waters washed it into these thick deposits in low laying areas. The temperature was also only in the 30s so it didn’t have time to melt. It just floated down the streets and collected. I think the skew-t would show some incredible temperature inversions north of the front last night. Wind and pressure time series would also be cool to see where downdrafts generated gravity waves. The wind shifts were on the order of 30 mph one direction, then 30 mph the opposite direction. Easy to confuse with rotation couplets. There were some in the Chicago area too with the initial elevated supercell there.
  2. Thanks. I would know how on my PC at home, but I’m an idiot boomer with iphone at work.
  3. Large “hailbergs” from last night’s storm in Grand Rapids. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1CMgnYijVc/?mibextid=wwXIfr Edit: Does anyone know how to embed links? A long time ago it used to be easy but the site has changed.
  4. https://youtube.com/shorts/L0u2cw4FUhE?si=ddUD9eIfsM5pJCZa Video of flash flooding and accumulated hail in Grand Rapids, MI last night. Don’t know how to embed the video.
  5. I think the lake breeze might have helped it turn right. As soon as it did it was back in action. The low level jet ramped up by 5-10mph or so also at the time. I’m sure there will be studies.
  6. Copious small hail (covering the ground up to 1”) and major flash flooding in downtown Grand Rapids. This elevated supercell also produced the biggest gravity wave signature I have ever seen on radar. Too bad it was dark.
  7. Yea, it’s 38 degrees here and there was a raging thunderstorm with continuous lightning copious amounts of small hail. Crazy inversion with 60 degrees temps surging in aloft.
  8. Weird phenomenon here in Grand Rapids. Huge gravity waves on the local radar. Wind rapidly shifting east, then west.
  9. Anyone else notice the large gravity wave rolls on GRR radar? It’s weird. There are strong gusts penetrating down into the cold air!
  10. Elevated supercell approaching with a temperature of 38 degrees. Coldest severe thunderstorm ever.
  11. I think the lingering remnants of the Lake Michigan lake breeze helped steer it right. Hard to tell exactly, but the right turn really helped it blow up.
  12. It looks like a massive RFD too. Big circulation.
  13. Looks like multiple circulations on the Kankakee cell. Broad area of damaging winds.
  14. It’s definitely not done! Be careful.
  15. I don’t think it’s done just yet. There isn’t really anything else except way west now.
  16. Yea, it has gone back into a hail mode for now.
  17. The Pontiac cell definitely, before it gets dark. It’s kinda far from the radar right now. Hard to tell what’s happening on the surface.
  18. It’s turning slightly right as well. Its moving right of the warning cone.
  19. It’s getting that look now. Grown in size too.
  20. That has a strong meso on it aloft, but it seems to be elevated. Definitely a hail mode cell though.
  21. It seems to be trying to split in two.
