  1. Upper 40s in my area this morning. I see a few areas in New Jersey have dipped into the upper 30s. With clear skies and no wind tonight, I would not be surprised some of those areas get frost tonight.
  2. After a high today of 63, already down to 53 here.
  3. If the colder suburbs don't get a frost tomorrow night, this coming weekend looks good for them to get a frost or freeze.
  4. It was only 6 years ago that Central Park experienced a very cold January and February, the coldest since 1934.
  5. Maybe they said that in Texas last year.
  6. After the cool down starting tonight and lasting thru Tuesday morning, the mild weather returns but not nearly as warm as this week. Looks like 60s or low 70s in the day and 40s and 50s at night. Pretty nice. Maybe some frost Monday night in the coldest places.
  7. 72 degrees here, clouds moving in and wind gusting to 22mph off the water.
  8. My stats were from 2000-2021. That would mean LGA actually fell .3 degrees from the 1991-2020 period. JFk went up .2 in the same time frames. Islip also fell in the 2000-2021 time frame compared to 1990-2020 by some .4 degrees. Central Park fell .3 also. Newark stayed about the same. Sounds like the 1990s were very mild January. Station 2000-2021 1990-2020 JFK 33 32.8 LGA 34.1 34.4 ISP 31.5 31.9 EWR 32.8 32.8 NYC 33.4 33.7 I understand my stats are not a 30 yr time frame. I got them off the NWS site and they listed the 2000-2021 time frame. Interesting that JFK is the only station of the immediate metro area that rose.
  9. I just find it interesting that JFK would have an average January temperature colder than LaGuardia. It would be like Oceanside having a colder January average than say Oyster Bay. If it is radiational cooling then maybe the thermometer at JFK is in a more secluded area than LaGuardia, like in the heat island affect.
  10. Just saying these temperatures at this time of year around here may be nice but are not normal.
  11. Looks like Monday many areas may stay in the 50s, about time.
  12. So your saying the heat island affect.
  13. These are the average January temperatures since the year 2000: Caldwell N.J. 30.4 Islip N.Y. 31.5 Newark 32.8 Kennedy 33 Central Park 33.4 LaGuardia 34.1 3 things stick out to me. One, Newark is colder than Central Park, possibly because Central Park daytime highs are higher with no foliage. Two, the heat island affect. You would think Islip would be warmer than Central Park and Newark. Islip has more of an ocean influence but it apparently can't make up for the highly dense urbanization of the more inland areas like Newark and Central Park. Three, LaGuardia is a degree warmer than Kennedy even though Kennedy has more of an ocean influence which in the winter is a milder influence.
  14. Has anyone figured how Central Park winter temps compare to surrounding areas? If they read about the same, then it would seem to indicate the foliage is definitely making a difference in the warmer months. If the high temps are cooler than surrounding areas even in winter, then that is something to ponder why.
  15. Maybe they figure the foliage only affects it about 1/2 the year, so no rush. Actually this leads me to think how the temperatures compare to other stations during winter months.
  16. 77 degree high here so far today.
  17. Hit 70 degrees here today. Feels very mild out tonight. If the sun comes out tomorrow, we may finally get those temps well into the 70s.
  18. I think the first 40s of the season for Central Park will occur this Sunday and Monday night
  19. 69 degrees and cloudy here, looks like another day of cloudiness holding temps. down a bit.
  20. While we have mild 70s, parts of the west are shivering. The Lake Tahoe area can expect temperatures in the teens tonight.
  21. It looks like some of the inland areas could finally get a frost next week. A little late
  22. Did not expect to have overcast and drizzle this morning.
  23. Looks like in about a week we will be getting into a chillier than normal period.
  24. Looks like a gloomy, somewhat raw type weekend, especially Sunday.
  25. Could be quite breezy along the coast this weekend
