  1. Looking north in my back yard, looks like a nasty storm over the sound.
  2. Currently in the 50s at the beaches. Hit 77 at my house.
  3. 77 my high, now down to 74. 56 degrees at Jones Beach
  4. 55 degrees here this morning, looking forward to temperatures hitting the 70s here this afternoon, hopefully.
  5. If it reaches 80 degrees in the city tomorrow, it will be the first time in almost 7 months, September 18th the last time.
  6. Got up to 68 here, currently 65.
  7. I have seen the sun reflect off a house window and warp the siding on the house next door. The heat island affect from NYC is so strong that the temperature reading in Central Park, which is not near the high rises, still is affected on calm nights to be some 10 degrees warmer than suburbs.
  8. In the past 10-20 years there has been a big change in the city skyline with numerous skyscrapers being built not only in Manhattan but especially in western Queens and Brooklyn. Not sure what affect this has in respect to the heat island affect but it makes sense that it must have some affect. Hopefully the greener buildings and materials being used to construct the buildings will minimize the affect on the local climate.
  9. I agree as far as Long Island Sound goes, it is cleaner now than in the 1960s.
  10. The biggest climate affects around our area are milder temperatures and wetter conditions and more snow. As far as flowering plants and trees being threatened by cold, this has always been a big problem down south, I would assume. My daffodils seemed very droopy this morning but I think they will survive.
  11. Temperatures in the Adirondacks expected to be near zero the next few nights. Not exactly spring weather.
  12. 41 degrees with ice pellets here
  13. Had thunder and lightning here with heavy rain.
  14. 38 degrees here this morning. Heat island in full affect with 54 degrees in Manhattan.
  15. I now have more snow than yesterday, of course that isn't saying much, but it is still snowing moderately.
  16. It is snowing harder here than it did yesterday.
  17. Looking at NYS Thruway cams, it looks like heavy snow in the Kingston area, would not be surprised if they get close to double digits.
