  1. First day that has a real fall feel to it. Struggling to get out of the 60s this morning, 67 now.
  2. The last hurricane to take a path up the east coast and strike Long Island was Gloria in 1985. Since then tropical storms have made similar paths but none were classified as hurricanes when they hit our area.
  3. Yea it looks like the models are backing off for the real warmth over the next week here in the northeast. Looks mostly 70s and 80s for the next week or so, for daytime highs.
  4. Decent rains here last night with .73 of an inch.
  5. It is muggy outside with no wind. Maybe a recipe for some decent rains.
  6. I think 90s are done for most of the area. Of course you never know in the hot spot around eastern N.J. near the city.
  7. Picked .28 inch of rain from yesterday and last night event. Better than I expected. Looks like a week of normal temperatures coming up. Thursday and Friday night look fairly chilly.
  8. Yes it looks like nothing has changed for Long Island, at least at this point. First round of rain, very little here.
  9. So far today here, almost enough rain to make the ground damp.
  10. 84 my high after an overnight low of 58. Pretty good temperature spread lately with pleasant day time temperatures and cool nights.
  11. I averaged 87-69 at my house in August. So far September is averaging 82-62.
  12. Beautiful day at Tobay Beach today. Very comfortable with temps in the 70s to near 80. I will say, this is one long stretch of boring weather. I know it is boring when I was following last weeks rain like it was a snow event.
  13. Another nice September day here with a high of 80 and a low of 55.
  14. 79 the high today after a morning low of 62. Nice September weather.
  15. I got 1/2 my total from a heavy shower, last night, that I was on the southern fringe of. It looked like south of Hempstead Turnpike got nothing from that shower. Another recording station on weatherlink that is about 2 miles to my north is now up to 1.87 inches. They got twice as much as me from that one heavy shower.
  16. I think you will end up with an inch or more. For your sake I hope I'm right.
  17. .99 here as another heavy shower moved thru a little while ago. Light rain now
  18. Those heavy showers seem to be coming more numerous on Long Island, especially in Nassau
  19. There were a couple of heavy showers that hit Nassau during the night in the East Meadow, Hicksville and parts of Levittown. Also up around Syosset over toward Huntington. I was on the southern end of one of them and picked up .61 so far. Meanwhile just a few miles away there has been very little rain.
  20. I picked up .58 inch of rain from a small cell that was over my area and just to my north. Hicksville picked up about an inch and places just to there north and just to my south are still at close to 0 with rainfall from this event. I got lucky and was just on the southern fringe of that little heavy rain band.
  21. I am hoping and believing, at this point, this will be one of the many instances where it takes seemingly forever for the precipitation to finally make it eastward enough to reach Long Island but when it finally does we get our fair share.
  22. I think a prolonged period of rain will give Long Island over an inch of rain. Much needed.
  23. Coming up the Wantagh Parkway this morning, remarkable how many trees, including evergreens, were brown and possibly dieing.
