  1. Temps already dropping to the upper teens in some mid Hudson Valley locations over to western New England. That snow pack makes the temps drop fast.
  2. that is what happened here, then suddenly it turned to snow and the temperature dropped a quick few degrees. now 33
  3. Temperature dropped a quick 2 degrees to 34.3 and sure enough it is finally snowing here. Even a slight slushy mess on the windshield of the car.
  4. It would not have really amounted to much of anything here if it was snow all day. Only .01 of an inch of rain so far.
  5. 40 with a few light rain drops here. Long Island could get a quick hit of snow late tonight into early morning.
  6. Yea January into early February is the coldest, so this would be good timing in that sense.
  7. I wonder if this will be a case where the west coast has all the cold and snow for the fall, then it flips for 3 weeks to the east coast, then flips back to the west for the remainder of the winter.
  8. Models showing a strong wind event for Long Island, doesn't mean a lot this early in the game but interesting to watch.
  9. I am just glad there is a storm somewhere along or near the coast. Something to track. I really don't buy into the track of north to N. Y. and then a right turn. I think a more general NE track will happen.
  10. The GFS seems to be on board this run, with a storm coming up the coast. The path it has is north from North Carolina to southeast New York and then due east to about 150 miles east of Cape Cod. That ain't happening. So I just look at it as a storm off North Carolina and then off Cape Cod. At this point it is in that general area and that is a good thing, a real possibility for a decent Nor'easter. Exact track to be determined.
  11. It would be nice to have a little snow on the ground for Christmas, even at the coast.
  12. What ever happened to extreme winter cold fronts with 50mph wind gusts and snow squalls.
  13. So the 6z GFS goes from a raging snowstorm nor'easter to a 12z total miss.
  14. I agree, as we get deeper into winter we don't necessarily need arctic air. However the coldest of the air has for some time now been out west and then goes east mostly to our south. As of now the pattern does not seem to be changing much, we are just getting naturally chillier and this could be good enough for inland areas.
  15. The models seem to be saying the same thing that has been happening for a while now, for the next 10 days the bulk of the cold air goes to our south and west.
  16. So would folks rather have a colder climate with less snow like the 70s and 80s or a climate like we have which is milder with more snow. I think a good point was made by Volcanic Winter, when will it get so mild that we start to lose the elevated snow totals.
  17. Just seems like a very short time frame to make much of a conclusion.
  18. Be this good or bad, correct or wrong, most people are probably glad that winters here are not as severe.
  19. Heat island in full affect this morning. A frosty 23 here and only 36 in Central Park.
  20. Yea there are reasons why this happens but to a casual weather observer it is a pretty good rule of thumb, stormy on one coast and quiet on the other. It can go back and forth but it is not common for both coasts to be in the action zone at the same time.
  21. Yes this is a definite pattern as long as I can remember, stormy out west and quiet in the east and vice versa.
  22. That is usually when real winter weather starts in my area.
