It is incredible what a short distance can make in the lake effect. Buffalo has been just a few miles from very heavy snow and as of now has been basically snow free.

There were quite a few years where the west was dry and lacking in snowfall in the winter while we had lots of snow and plenty of rain. Now it has changed, I guess that is how you get averages. I just wish it would change back, this is very boring.

Some more stats: since the year 2000 Dulles average DJF 36.6 Central Park DJF 36.4 Islip DJF 34.2 Having spent a lot of time near Dulles, they are generally warmer in the day and colder at night then Central Park.
