  1. I felt two rain drops here in Ches. Co. Pottstown about an hour and a half ago. I lightly watered two specimen plants that were struggling. Beautiful day at French Creek park yesterday. Lake Hopewell is sitting about 18 inches below the spill way, creek and lake levels aren't as low as I would expect. The cooler temperatures I think have helped. We are going into conservation mode here at our house.
  2. every force has an equal an opposite reaction... am I right!
  3. There's actually an entire field dedicated to modeling this kind of stuff using differential equations-- I did a bit of it in engineering school but never became a true expert. Its very important for game mangement and issueing the proper numbers of hunting permits and fishing limits. Accorns in particular are an important nutrition source for deer and wild turkey (accorns also can be turned into flour for human cooking). I also noticed a bumber crop of pine cones at my house. It should be interesting to see how the beech nut and walnut crop does.
  4. I saw a study a while back that used a method called "statisical bootstrapping" to prove that indeed tornado alley has shifted approximatel a few hundred miles eastward
  5. Heading up to Sugarbush for a PSIA exam. Should be there March 22nd to March 28th. Any intuition on the systems moving through the area during that time period? GFS seems to vacillate between Rain an snow. CMC seems to be snowier
  6. It would be nice for Bear Creek if this worked out like last week. Found myself saying "Brown go around. Gray stay away-- White it's okay" to my students this weekend. Too Many mud patches on the hill to navigate.
  7. Nice night at Bear Creek last night for our weekly instructor clinic. Pretty much 85% snow 15% sleet until the rain started taking over at about 10pm. Skied like 2.5" of fresh snow.
  8. Saw similar temperatures in the East York area-- fascinating mircoclimate there! By my work (eastern edge of amish country) Weeping willows, flowering cherries and alders are begining to leaf-out.
  9. This is one weird, weird winter. Warm snaps, cold snaps, ground hog sees his shadow, tornado snap,...
  10. This is the more impressive/depressive side of this winter. This is a rare cloud type called an Asperitas: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asperitas_(cloud)
  11. Ralph, I'm suprised, do you really think that has a chance of working out?
  12. Don't think the shoulder was 100% but its nice to see the cold air blocking in textbook position.
  13. 40% accuracy..... LOL that's worse than guessing....!
  14. At least we won't miss south...? Most interesting weather lately were some lightening strikes I was driving home from Reading on Thursday. Mountains up north are finally getting snow. Vermont supposedly has been a dream this week.
  15. seems like the temperature is remaining stubbornly high for snowmaking.
  16. My ski mountain I instruct at is really struggling-- didn't build up enough man made snow in Dec. Mountain is closed today hoping to make snow tonight... --this is no way to pay off my new boots...
