  1. Had two 37 degree mornings this past week. Have only had 0.33" rain in the past 11 days.
  2. Caught a little blurb on the local weather at noontime. Less air traffic is leading to less data for model input, which in turn is leading to less accurate long range model output. . On another note, I'm curious what, if any impact (short or long range), will drastically lower vehicle traffic, closed factories, emissions, etc. have on the weather?
  3. Turned ours on to move the air around. Too much pine pollen out there to open the windows.
  4. I was an EMT in Kill Devil Hills at the time. Half of our staff had gone to see the circus at Scope, and were snowed in up there for 2 days, and couldn't get back to the OBX for another day. Our skeleton crew (5 of us) had to pull an 96 hour shift, sleeping on the clinic beds/examining tables at Outer Banks Medical Center. We got hit pretty good with the snow as well... 10-12" with incredible drifts. There was a period there in the late 70s and early 80s when there was a coastal snowstorm every single time Barnum & Bailey's was in town up in Norfolk.
  5. Sunday 06z GFS is now showing 0.12" rain for this week's super-saturation event at RDU!
  6. RAH this afternoon ~ 2/24 pair of strong shortwaves rotating through the base of the long wave trough; one Friday, followed by a stronger, secondary wave on Saturday, will need to be monitored for the potential for some very light precip amounts across the area. Given the modified cP airmass that will be in place, favorable nocturnal timing could allow for some very light/trace amounts of frozen precip.
  7. LOL - this is the first time we've ever lost the satellite signal on DirecTV for snow. all 1.5" +/- of it!!! The dish was replaced 2 years ago. Must be designed differently.
  8. Just a fine misty snow here in Clayton now. Picked up about an inch so far. What's falling now is melting on the slushy road with little to no accumulation.
  9. Already sticking on elevated surfaces after just 25 minutes.
  10. Temp has dropped from 45 at noon to currently 37. All rain right now after a little sleet when the precip started.
  11. Rain and sleet in Clayton, 2 miles from JoCo airport. 43/32
  12. Starting the day off at 41/41. It appears that the current precip shield is well ahead of what the 06z GfS depicts.
  13. This is fantastic news!!!
  14. Greg Fishel - keeping it real. I do not believe this upcoming late week weather event is going to be your meteorological messiah. Might we see a few flakes? Yes, but every time I venture outside you've got that so what's the big deal???
  15. RAH - Sunday afternoon update. By Thursday morning, we'll see moist WSW flow aloft beginning to overrun the cold low level airmass advecting into NC, thus many of the models have been suggesting some light precip developing to our SW and skirting at least our southern and southeast zones during the daytime and evening Thursday. It's worth noting that the operational ECWMF has been shifting the precip shield further and further south with recent runs (given its further southward progression of the aforementioned cold front). That said, if the GFS and Canadian verify, which suggest that precip will fall farther north than what the ECMWF shows, forecast soundings from these models suggest an opportunity for some wet snowflakes to mix in with the otherwise light rain over the south and southeast portions of our CWA. Clearly there is a great deal of uncertainty with this part of the forecast, so the best advice now is to stay tuned to future forecasts for updates, but right now we are not forecasting anything that would lead to substantial weather impacts for central NC later this week.
  16. Where did THIS come from? (I know it's not mid-long range, but it's not an observation yet, either ) Tonight A chance of flurries between 11pm and 1am. Increasing clouds, with a low around 27. Northeast wind 5 to 8 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
  17. Allan Huffman @RaleighWx · 51s The 12z ECMWF continues support a wintry weather threat late next week. Overrunning wintry precip in Southeast Thursday, coastal low by Saturday with wintry weather eastern Carolinas/SE Va. 12z GFS/Canadian had no overrunning and coastal too far offshore. 12z EC keeps hope alive.
