Northwestern Spartanburg County in Upstate South Carolina... * Until 815 PM EDT. * At 740 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located 8 miles north of Greenville Downtown, or near Paris Mountain State Park, moving east at 40 mph.

Also on the bright side, it also tempers the chance of severe weather, at least for 'our' area.

Boy, the GFS has really cut back on precipitation amounts for the next 2 systems. (RDU area). Now just showing 0.20 for Thursday, and 0.12 for the weekend event. Meanwhile, NWS is still calling for over an inch for tomorrow/tomorrow night. NAM 12z drops 2.38" tomorrow. So, I'm going to go out on a limb and say we'll probably get some rain, and it could be a little, or could be a lot.

I guess if the storms won't come to them, they flock to the storms. 4/12 was the same way. Lots of new 'faces' in the forum.

GFS has really pulled back on precip amounts for this next event. Gone from over 3.5" to now (12z Friday) just 0.67" (RDU area)

Caught a little blurb on the local weather at noontime. Less air traffic is leading to less data for model input, which in turn is leading to less accurate long range model output. . On another note, I'm curious what, if any impact (short or long range), will drastically lower vehicle traffic, closed factories, emissions, etc. have on the weather?

Turned ours on to move the air around. Too much pine pollen out there to open the windows.

I was an EMT in Kill Devil Hills at the time. Half of our staff had gone to see the circus at Scope, and were snowed in up there for 2 days, and couldn't get back to the OBX for another day. Our skeleton crew (5 of us) had to pull an 96 hour shift, sleeping on the clinic beds/examining tables at Outer Banks Medical Center. We got hit pretty good with the snow as well... 10-12" with incredible drifts. There was a period there in the late 70s and early 80s when there was a coastal snowstorm every single time Barnum & Bailey's was in town up in Norfolk.

Sunday 06z GFS is now showing 0.12" rain for this week's super-saturation event at RDU!

RAH this afternoon ~ 2/24 pair of strong shortwaves rotating through the base of the long wave trough; one Friday, followed by a stronger, secondary wave on Saturday, will need to be monitored for the potential for some very light precip amounts across the area. Given the modified cP airmass that will be in place, favorable nocturnal timing could allow for some very light/trace amounts of frozen precip.

LOL - this is the first time we've ever lost the satellite signal on DirecTV for snow. all 1.5" +/- of it!!! The dish was replaced 2 years ago. Must be designed differently.

Just a fine misty snow here in Clayton now. Picked up about an inch so far. What's falling now is melting on the slushy road with little to no accumulation.

Already sticking on elevated surfaces after just 25 minutes.

Temp has dropped from 45 at noon to currently 37. All rain right now after a little sleet when the precip started.
