Another big chance for aurora tomorrow night. Looks like clear skies for all of us too. Assuming the predicted solar conditions hold I’ll be heading to the hills of northwestern Lehigh County to try to view them.

Our significant, newsworthy events are far less severe than in other areas. We’re getting 20 inches of snow? Try 6 feet in a week in the mountains out west or the lake effect snow belts. A hurricane is traveling up the east coast? Probably a cat 1 at best here after devastating the southeast. Severe weather outbreak likely? Lots of minor wind damage and maybe a tornado or two, meanwhile Alabama and Oklahoma are dealing with EF3+ tornadoes.

I'm already over fall. The worst season for northeast weenies unless we get a strong tropical system affecting us. Storm season passed a month ago and snow likely won't get here for another 2 months. We're just stuck in a boring cycle of sun and rain without anything particularly exciting.

Well, we all complained about how dry it was just a week ago. We just didn’t think the streak would break by not being able to see the sun for an entire week.

That’s Connor Croff, he’s a very experienced storm chaser. I see him streaming all the time during tornado season in the plains. Not sure how much experience he has with hurricanes.

Clear skies for days and suddenly we get clouds on a night when the aurora is visible. Unreal how that always seems to happen.

My match next weekend is women’s tennis but I also get assigned to lots of men’s matches.

I ref NCAA tennis and next Saturday is my first match of the season, I bet it rains just because that’s how it usually goes. Dry for weeks and suddenly rain when I need to be outside.

I saw a single distant lightning flash from those frontal showers earlier. Might be the last lightning I see for quite awhile.

Slight risk N&W of I-95 tomorrow. Could be one of our last chances for severe storms this year.

Drove through a heavy downpour on my way home from a concert in Camden. There were even a couple of lightning flashes.

So much for that slight risk today. Nothing severe anywhere near Philly. I saw some distant lightning in Allentown from that line that passed to the north but that’s about it.

12z GFS doesn’t get dews above 60 at all for the entirety of the run past Labor Day.

So are we keeping this thread going till 9/1 and then switching to the fall thread? Very hot and muggy out today. Hoping this is the last of this type of weather this year. Short range models like a complex of storms somewhere in eastern PA this evening but they disagree on whether it’s in the Poconos, Lehigh Valley, or Philly area.

Looking like tomorrow may be the last day of 90s this year, at least in the Lehigh Valley. The pattern for the next few weeks looks to be dominated by cold fronts coming in from Canada and the Great Lakes. And by the time the pattern breaks it’ll be really tough to get intense heat and humidity back into the area given the time of year.

The cold front has arrived here. That breeze from the north feels so nice. And it’s supposed to get much chillier!

Last night was perfect. Got a decent amount of rain along with a lot of lightning and thunder. But all the training storms and flooding rains missed - and just barely, too, western and northern Lehigh County got smoked. Hoping we can get some more today before we get a little taste of fall for the next few days.

I’m about 3-4 miles south of 22. Radar has looked nasty that way. Finally getting some heavy rain here from a new cell that just popped up.

Getting missed by the training storms so far today. Lots of thunder and lightning though.

Well that’s disappointing. No exciting weather likely around here for weeks…I really wanted to see some aurora tonight to make up for it.

Forecast for tonight is mostly clear with very few clouds. Let’s hope we can get a good show.

Heard the aurora was fading after midnight last night so I decided to go to bed. From what I’m reading it perked up again past 2 am. I regret not staying up for it.
